Aha! You just gave a proof that a darknet exists on Slashdot.
I've know about that one for a long time. If you want to join the party, click here.

We just can't see it. But this article got propably a thousand dark wannabe first posts already.
I wonder how they compare to this post?

Senator Coonan said it was important the new laws balance the interests of the public with those of the telemarketing industry, which employs 700,000 people.

But she said the changes are unlikely to lead to mass job losses.

So the register is going to be so incredibly successful that the telemarketers probably won't lose their jobs. Right. Now I wonder what activity they are going to fill in their time with... ring up and give stuff away for free? Set their caller id to your next door neighbour ala WAP Access Points?

Wait... with 700,000 telemarketers, my neighbour probably *is* a telemarketer! No wonder John Williamson wrote that song "This is Australia Calling", and why Telstra likes to use it in all their ads. That's it. I'll never answer the phone ever again without making doubly sure that my tinfoil hat is attached and in the blocking position before picking up the phone.

It's not, unless you watch Today Tonight.
You'd have an even bigger problem if you watched A Current Affair on Channel Nine. Not only are they're in cahoots with Micro$oft's m$n, as this site proves, but their regional outlet, Win, is in charge of maintaining all the radio transmitters. I understand that in rural Australia their reception is on average 6dBm better than Channel Seven, and that's when you're wearing a tinfoil hat. I can't imagine how bad it would be without one.

Actually, the point is that questions like "are you available" aren't funny at all: it is degrading. SLSIA, and you might want to FTL. Having a sense of humor is not the point, rather, respekt, or lack of it. :-)

If you read my post, I just giving some helpful tips. No one deserves to be modded down for being helpful. But at time of writing I haven't been modded anything yet, so what are you complaining about? I don't expect good mod points ever, so I try to informative or funny at least. IMHO, if a guy is posting pickup lines on Slashdot, he needs the help. ;-)

Furthermore, if I post something that is informative it doesn't matter if I get mod points or not. No moderation scheme is completely perfect, (news of a certain kernel release comes to mind,) but Slashdot does come close. That being said, mod points are a bonus, but I don't care for my own points; I prefer to let the goal of adding to discussion be my Prime Directive.

    What are you doing later?

That was not very nice, and with a response like that it's no wonder you're single. I'm a single guy too, but asking every single tech-inclined lady online if they are available is not the way to find a date. If you want to go somewhere with a lady, try asking them something other than "are you available", like get their opinion on something, and show that you are actually interested in them as a person and what they believe. That, and get out of the house some.

Haven't you read the HOWTO on male etiquette? From the link:
Like any other human being, a woman wants to have friends and be appreciated for who she is. Every time she gets an email asking her on a date, she is reminded that she isn't viewed as part of the group, but instead as different, an object of desire, and is certainly not being judged on her technical merit alone.

This may be hard to stomach, but you need to not hit on women who show up for Linux events, at least not right away. In all likelihood, you are NOT throwing away your only chance at true love by not coming on to her immediately, but you are throwing away your chance to have a fun new member of the Linux community. And even if you still think you're missing a chance at true love, keep in mind that many women brave enough to show up at a LUG or your local mailing list will frequently make the first move anyway. By hitting on them at the first opportunity, you're scaring them away, and you're also scaring away all the other women who might have become interested if the first woman had stayed.

This goes double for women you meet over email or on IRC. You may think that your "Are you single?" line is hysterically witty and suave, but she's heard it a million times. Even if you're joking, even if you already have a girlfriend or are married--don't do it.
'Nuff said. I don't have enough posts under my belt to be a mod yet, (which is why I am making this point now,) but even I have been online long enough to know that treating people nicely and with respect is a Good Thing.

Why doesn't Nintendo create an amateur game development kit?
Because that would be too professional. ;-)
Don't you know that vague APIs and equally vauge documentation is rather popular in amateur circles? You must be new here.

Consider the viewpoint of game companies: If an amateur game development kit is available, why bother paying for the full one when the minimal package will suffice?
Consider the viewpoint of Nintendo: They have to get their money out of third-party developers too.

Also consider the cost of making such a kit and the amount of possible buyers: there would be little return for Nintendo. Very few amateur people would pay for an amateur kit when they can just hack their own as featured in the article. Recall that these developers are labelled 'amateur' because they don't have vast sums of money at their disposal. It's not like we are talking about professional OSS software developers who see no harm in paying for something that's truly worth it and will advance OSS more than it hinders.

It's money they'd probably enjoy having that they don't now.
Considering the expected losses they'd incur making such a kit, I doubt it.

From what I've read, I'd like to know what their warranty is on stuck pixels. With a certain manufacturer (samsung Samsung SAMSUNG) you can get LCDs with a warranty so good they'll replace your entire monitor if ONE pixel gets stuck. As for this new NEC monitor, with all that new, extra technology I'd say the chances for stuck pixels would be high until a few more models down the line. Then again I might be saying nonsense since some later bits in the article could say otherwise.

The technology provides... uniformity with no apparent downside.
Yup, the monitor is so uniform in fact that its feature article keeps on crashing FirefoxB2. This is the first time in my experience that an article covering NEC monitors could crash my browser if I'm not using an NEC monitor. Not that I'm paranoid, (my tinfoil hat is in the mail as-we-speak,) but I think they must have something against Samsung.
