It's about time that network television realize that their distribution method is archaic and self-defeating. For years now they have had the capability and capacity to restructure their broadcast distribution model, and have instead resorted to lawsuits, DRM, and lobbying to protect their ancient distro monopolies.
Finally it seems that with the proliferation of technologies such as BitTorrent (among others) somebody was smart enough to realize that they could adapt their model to emerging technologies and profit from it.
I hope that what this means is that end users will finally get the conrtol over their television content, that internet users have over theirs. The technology has long been here, but the big broadcasters have been too lazy and scared to try and do anything but protect their asses in an old, conventional profit structure.
As a 10 year DOS/Windows user, with 8 years in I.T. I recently made the switch myself. I'd hated Apple's for years, but once they decided to build their OS on freeBSD technology I couldn't help myself.
Frankly, I love it. Like another person mentioned before, I used to spend hours on Putty. Now I just drop down to a terminal and have fun.
I really wish Apple would just release their OS to more directly compete with Windows. As a user of both platforms I can honestly say that I think OS X would win hands down.
I have a friend who is absolutely convinced that there are people outside their house every night using microwaves to brainwash them. Now there's TWO stories on slashdot at once that could be easily manipulated to "support" their claims.
My friend's house is going to be completely covered in tin foil.
Thanks alot Slashdot
