    Heh ... good one. Still, though -- for me, at least, heavy usage on this Dell/XP Pro laptop hasn't caused any major problems at all. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I doubt it.

    Funny, my Dell Inspiron 5100 has had *zero* problems, running XP Pro, for the past two years. And I beat the living hell out of it.

    As I said above ...

    Same box (Abit AA8 mobo). Tried installing Fedora Core 4, after downloading ISO and burning to DVD. Onboard sound WOULD NOT WORK after Fedora install.

    Took A HELL OF A LOT LONGER THAN 15 MINUTES (1.5 hours) to finally get it to work, with some half-assed ALSA driver that still sounds like shit.

    Onboard sound is perfect in XP, after my gut-wrenching 15-minute installation procedure.

    Oh, but that's 1.5 hours of "education" and "learning" in the Linux world. Got it.

    I won't even go into the ridiculous hoops you must jump through to install a fscking NVIDIA driver.

    Just because you've never had an issue with Linux and sound card drivers, doesn't mean problems don't exist. Try googling for it, you'll get a billion hits.

    Linux. Drivers. Are. A. Roadblock.

    Interesting. I built an XP vanilla box over the weekend, and it took about 15 minutes to get the sound card working. (went to the manufacturer's site, downloaded the driver, double-click, install, done).

    Oh, but nevermind. As previously mentioned, XP "sucks out of the box" for drivers.

    On a decent PC, nothing comes close. Most beautiful and challenging racing sim. Ever.

    After playing it, I can't imagine why anyone would want to engage any other sim ... especially a NASCAR one.

    NASCAR drivers see 1 turn 1000 times. Rally drivers see 1000 turns 1 time.

    1. Install Firefox, remove access to IE (easy to do with profiles)

    2. Upgrade your hardware.

    3. Upgrade your hardware.

    4. Install kerio or Sygate PFP (about a two-minute download).

    Care to delineate why? I've used XP Pro since day of release ... no virii, no worms, *rarely* crashed ... overall fast and stable. This has been done using free software, and simply good computing habits -- which I'm sure you could implement, since you know enough about computers to make Linux work for you.

    I tire so, of these "Xp sucks because ... well, it just does!" comments ...

    Not all products on newegg.com are cheap and poorly made.

    I put together a very nice system (for gaming) for under $800, all with quality parts from newegg.com. It's been running for four months, with not one problem.

    Ok, one problem: Fedora Core 4 won't recognize my wireless PCI card.

    Anyway ... you're painting all newegg customers/products as cheap and/or craptastic. Simply not true.

    What version of Quicken are you using?

    In Quicken 2001, I use this process:

    1. Open Quicken 2001
    2. Open my browser go to www.mybank.com
    3. Select my account, select 'download transactions into Quicken'
    4. Browser starts the download, Quicken 2001 pops up, asking me to "connect to Quicken for registration." I let it try, then cancel the process.
    5. I get a "an error has occured" message. I ignore it, click "cancel"
    6. My transactions are then automatically (for reasons yet unclear, but unquestioned by me) loaded into Quicken 2001.

    Don't know if this will work for you, but I haven't upgraded in ... well, four years.
