    Your experience dovetails with the OP ... "exotic hardware" can encompass "cheap NICs". If you were using a 3COM or Netgrear or Intel or etc., you likely wouldn't have had problems with the driver.

    I've probably done this two dozen times over the past few years. Not unusual at all, in software development cycles. It's BETA SOFTWARE (in caps, to help you realize that's not the final product) and you should expect it to have some inconvenient usage requirements.

    And really ... uninstalling takes about 90 seconds on my three-year-old laptop. Your time must be extremely valuable, if that's too long for you.

    Oh, the horror of being stuck with my Dell Inspiron 5100, three years old, without *one* hardware problem, and only a handful of lockups with the original XP Pro install. It even recovered from a full cup o' coffee spilled directly on the keyboard, fixed by my disassembling the case, and blowing out the liquid with a can o' air. Didn't even have to call on my service contract.

    Not all Dell laptops are crap.

    Novell Suse Linux 10.0 is the *FIRST* and *ONLY* desktop distro I've tried (RHEL, FC4, Mandriva, Linspire, Ubuntu) that has properly detected all my hardware and installed with barely any tweaking.

    It's been a dream.

    Actually, since Apple likely created the uninstall app, it will probably remove everything, as it is supposed to.

    In my experience, most "bad" uninstalls are due to crappy software development. Some remove all traces of an application, some do not. That can't be the fault of the OS.
