Your experience dovetails with the OP... "exotic hardware" can encompass "cheap NICs". If you were using a 3COM or Netgrear or Intel or etc., you likely wouldn't have had problems with the driver.
//Errr, right, but I've used loads of BETA SOFTWARE and never had to uninstall the previous beta before installing the new version, I just went right ahead & installed it over the previous version.//
Errr, right, but I've used loads of BETA SOFTWARE and have had to uninstall the previoius beta before installing the new version.
I've probably done this two dozen times over the past few years. Not unusual at all, in software development cycles. It's BETA SOFTWARE (in caps, to help you realize that's not the final product) and you should expect it to have some inconvenient usage requirements.
And really... uninstalling takes about 90 seconds on my three-year-old laptop. Your time must be extremely valuable, if that's too long for you.
Oh, the horror of being stuck with my Dell Inspiron 5100, three years old, without *one* hardware problem, and only a handful of lockups with the original XP Pro install. It even recovered from a full cup o' coffee spilled directly on the keyboard, fixed by my disassembling the case, and blowing out the liquid with a can o' air. Didn't even have to call on my service contract.
Novell Suse Linux 10.0 is the *FIRST* and *ONLY* desktop distro I've tried (RHEL, FC4, Mandriva, Linspire, Ubuntu) that has properly detected all my hardware and installed with barely any tweaking.
It's been a dream.
Novell... please don't let Oracle destory it! Please!
except that, generally, the US Gov won't come to your home, throw you in jail and *KILL YOU* without due process. It's still hard for them to do that, despite what you read on Slashdot or see on TV.
... why? Iran's entire "government" is based on radical Islam -- meaning, "kill everyone who doesn't believe in Allah."
Not sure why this is news. This is how it is, and how it ever will be, with most Muslim countries.
I use XP Pro daily, and am (mostly) satsified with MS products... but that article made me laugh out loud. And... hmmm... maybe I should investigate Linux more thoroughly...
// On the other hand, they decided to go with the "high-end" graphics option, which had 24-bit color and 800x600, instead of 8-bit color and 1024x768 (sigh.)//
Eh? How can a 24-bit graphics card *not* display at a higher resolution than an 8-bit card?
Actually, since Apple likely created the uninstall app, it will probably remove everything, as it is supposed to.
In my experience, most "bad" uninstalls are due to crappy software development. Some remove all traces of an application, some do not. That can't be the fault of the OS.
Ummm... US companies have been purchasing Chinese goods for 50 years... mostly because they can get them much cheaper, than paying dumbass union workers $45/hr to produce the same thing.
Not the fault of the "current administration"... not by a long shot.
Please buy a (chinese) clue during your next shopping run at Wal-Mart.

Or, there's so few noobs to start with.
Funny, but dated. There are at least a half-dozen Starbucks in greater Chicagoland that have drive thrus ... and have had them for several years.
I hope not. My brain was foolish when it was 20. At 80, I hope it's *much* wiser.
Please, please give us the address of the Taco Bell that serves beer. Talk about paradise.
So ... your definition of a crappy laptop is one that runs reliably with little or no problems over three years?
Great logic, that.

Not quite. Nothing symbolizes Easter quite like the empty tomb of Christ.
Uh, no. Re-read Genesis, perferrably in the NIV. Adam and Eve were fully naked, and knew no shame, until they disobeyed God.
Hasn't the Bible taught you anything?

Sorry, but even most drunken sots would notice a fly with a *14-inch* wingspan.
Post this when the wingspan is 1/16th inch.
uhh ... why would you buy an iMac to play games? Good luck upgrading the vid card in two years.

What if I believe that it's OK to imprison programmers who make errors in software I use to run my business?
What if I believe that, as long as your in my country and you believe in another deity, it's fine to kill you?
There *ARE* absolute rights and wrongs. Trouble is, we've been blinded to them, mostly by the morally bankrupt leaders and media moguls of our time.
