Originally the designers wanted to build just two incredibly tall towers, but height restrictions forced them to get creative. They essentially lopped several floors off of their original specs and reused them as bridges, giving the whole structure a unique look that will stand out among the Seoul skyline.
You would only need satellites between the Sun and Mars so you don't need a complete ring of them, what you would need though is more power than what is currently generated by mankind on Earth.
Before we get to the point of colonizing Mars we would do well to learn to live in all environments on Earth first. It will give us necessary experience.
There is a not a section of land on Earth that would be harder to colonize than the easiest section of Mars.
The Atacama desert is a rather Mars like, try perfecting living there first, then decide if you want to go someplace even more inhospitable as that.
Space exploration in general may give us more places to live, but it won't give us better places to live.
I would really like for the National Academic Decathlon to receive more attention than high school sports.
My school made it to the national level my senior year (I was not involved) and there was absolutely no mention of it in the local papers. Instead the papers continued their portrayal of our school as full of druggies, which well yes it was, but those druggies were very smart.
It isn't so much if it does or does not, because yes obviously knocking your brain around won't help things out.
It is about the type of brain damage one receives, the stereotype was that head injuries make people a little slow, but now it is being found that it makes you severely depressed.
It's one thing to be able to enjoy what you have earned even if you are a little stupid, but it another thing when you cannot enjoy life.
If you tell people it's the Gnu Image Manipulation Program they will gladly call it GIMP so they don't have to say the whole thing.
Or you can just drop the G and just call it "The IMP", could even create a neat little Imp mascot for it. Actually that would probably be the best route.

Rather than introduce it by it's acronym why not use it's full name when recommending it?
No it is pretty obvious that/. is getting astroturfed.
Anytime that you see a first post with the same time stamp as the story it is a shill. The same exact shill, he seems to have a friend on the inside or something.
This calls of an addition to the slashdot UI, to list when people first registered and/or how many posts they have in the post header. Or maybe we could go a bit further and also allow people to assign score penalties for posts by very new users. Doesn't have to be a large limit, it's not like you even seem to make it beyond 2 per account anymore.
A simple way of implementing what you are saying would be to make karma public, but then people would get even more butt hurt about getting modded down.
I say get rid of all corporate lobbyists in Washington. They don't belong there.
You do that and then "lobbyists" will just become "concerned citizens". You wouldn't want to make laws that would make it hard for a concerned citizen to discuss issues with representatives would you?
If it wasn't full of shit it would be a great first post.
Posting obviously biased bullshit does not counter obviously biased bullshit, it just makes more of it that we have to filter to find the nuggets of wisdom.
For that account, if you look back at any google story he posts the very first post, before anyone else is able to even comment, but he uses a different account each time, sometimes with names that have to do with the issue in question.
He used to post under his own account, but I can't remember it offhand.
Yep, even mentioned in tfa.

Well, when you have no recourse then shooting the motherfuckers starts sounding better and better.
I'm wondering what the money is going for?
That could just be considered a tenet of communism really.

Also, don't stare at the cleavage, it makes them uncomfortable.
Easy enough to pay someone without actually paying them.
Loopholes within loopholes.
Laws will not stop the morally corrupt.

I'm thinking 2 tops, sooner if tries to make another billion dollar deal on a six figure company.

The linux zealotry has gone down quite a bit, primarily due to OSX adoption, Windows 7 not sucking, the rise of Ubuntu, and then the fall of Ubuntu.
Yea, you will still get some zealotry, but it is a far cry from even just 5 years ago.
If you just read at 4+ moderation you will read more group think and less truly insightful comments.
Better pay doesn't stop people from accepting bribes.
Not the movie reference I was expecting, I was expecting something more like this one.

I don't give a shit about the position, it's the tactic that pisses me off.
ROFL, yea, that is very effective.
The AC's dramatically declaring that they are leaving are probably the funniest.
The thing is, if this continues, it's not about me leaving, it's about this site becoming irrelevant if they continue to support shills.
This site is only as good as it's community and the community hates this asshole. It's part of why he no longer posts using is main account.
