    If an item just needs re-charging via USB I have been just plugging them into a powered USB hub.

    I do it as an energy saving scheme, no need to keep the computer on just to recharge a device.

    If the device is just recharging it doesn't need the computer to tell it when its done.

    My computer speakers at work aren't even plugged into my computer, they're plugged into the MP-3 player.

    Thinking about it further, why not just use a laser?

    Wouldn't even need to contaminate the solder with iron.

    Sounds to me like the heat can be applied more precisely with this method than the current method.

    Fairly sure there is wood glue that does hold much stronger if you heat it while it sets.

    I'm not in the FOSS community, but I tend to think of myself as a useful incompetent.

    My reply was based on an assumption I made from his comment. I knew not if it was right nor not, and prefaced it as such.

    I was trying to be helpful by sharing my opinion. Garbage in/Garbage out is a common problem anytime data is involved, especially so if it involves computers.

    It's not like I was saying to rtfm newb or anything close to that. Just trying to be helpful.

    I'm not sure how it works, but if you are submitting information electronically and it needs to be formatted correctly its probably not being looked at by a human in which case its vital that you format correctly.

    If you can't be bothered to give them correct information I can see why you have not gotten an acceptable response.

    Now if someone was posting illegal or confidential information or had an actual fear of retaliation beyond the confines of this message board I would understand, but just expressing an opinion that is merely contrary?

    It makes it hard to have a conversation on a topic if you don't know which AC is which.

    I don't agree with you, but I do recognize that you have reasons for choosing the hardware you do. So does everyone.

    The only reason I can see you get modded down is not your opinion on the hardware, its that you call everyone an idiot that doesn't agree with you.

    I installed Windows 7 this weekend and ran the patches. All the patches were checked automatically except for get this, the one that dealt with identifying pirate installs, I had to check that one manually.

    I found that very very odd.

    Cause Microsoft never let a zero-day exploit just sit around till they felt like patching it?

    Sometimes they can be goaded into releasing a patch early.

    Yes, most infections are for an exploit that is already patched, but not always.

    There are lots of free anti-virus options, no need to even pay $15.00 a year.

    I have been using Avast for years now, its great. AVG also still has basic protection for free also.

    It's not the cost, the main reason people have no anti-virus or out of date anti-virus is because they don't care enough or understand enough to care.

    The trial-ware anti-virus approach also is something I think should be stopped. Too many people think "Oh Mcaffee was included with my computer, I don't have to get an anti-virus." Not knowing that it was a trial version and it stopped working two years ago.

    Another aspect to this.

    When congress does projections to see how much money they will have available to spend they take into account how different taxes will provide revenue.

    So some bill out there got funded by this stupid tax which will make it that much harder to remove.

    It's not like we're talking about tax breaks for the rich, after all giving them tax breaks somehow provides more tax money.

    It's pretty apparent that Congress failed math, either that or they hired the Enron accountants.

    The further away the smaller the arc, the smaller the arc the slower the targeting mirror has to move making it easier to hit.

    Why could its orbit not be predicted long-term just because of its speed? There may be other factors, but speed alone is not it.

    Nope, but solar panels work well in space. AFAIK though, the 747 is using a chemical laser which would not be suited to what I was thinking.

    Then again I'm not talking about something that can blow a hole in a satellite, just something to nudge the space junk with.

    The main point he was trying to make though is that we have the technology to hit an ICBM in flight with a laser that is mounted on a 747. That is pretty amazing on its own and is a type of technology that would be needed for what I am talking about.

    It all depends on the distance the object is away from the laser, the further away, the easier to hit.

    There have been weapons in space before. Satellites have more to fear against ground based attacks than they would for a small scale laser in orbit.

    If anything the garbage-sweeping satellite doesn't have in its database is classified as "junk" and destroyed, it would end up taking these satellites down, and the owners might get ... testy.

    Then have it work off of a white list of approved junk.

    Besides, I'm talking about something for knocking the little bits and pieces out of orbit, it would take quite a big hit or multiple lasers to knock a black ops satellite out of orbit.
