  1. Yeah right on Why Is the Internet So Infuriatingly Slow? · · Score: 1

Reality check: I'm running P2P, a news crawling application, and half watching a video on hulu while I browse. My pages are loading just fine. Am I supposed to believe that other folks on my provider's pipe are having slowness while I myself am not? Yeah right. If your internet is slow it is because your provider sucks, plain and simple.

Maybe I'm too clinical but sounds too good to be true to me. The article itself has no information in it really. I'm not a nuclear physicist by any means but I've never heard of anything like this.

I'll have to tell my grand kids about how when I was young the corporations didn't track my bowel movements via satellite uplinked anal probe, they had hide in the sewer and count them one by one as they floated by. "That was good honest work Jr" I'll say, "real work done by real men ,down in the stink with their own two hands. Ah how I longed to be a Terdcountsman myself one day." I'll wax mournfully, just the hint of a tear glimmering in the corner of my eye. "Such a time I would have had counting the peanuts. But Jr, such honorable work is gone from the world now. Maybe you should go into marketing?" sigh ... Much more entertaining than our grandfathers' tales of newspaper shoes. Maybe it's getting to be time to move to a mountain top and grow that beard I've always wanted.

  5. Missed the point as usual on Patents of Business Destruction · · Score: 3, Insightful

Of course patent trolls aren't evil in the sense that they are not the cause of the problem. Software patents on the other hand are evil and unnessasary. It used to be a fundamental tenant of patent law that the purpose of protection was to encourage creation. Software creators do not apear to need this protection. For the first ~30 years they had only copywrite and the industry still managed to grow at a ridiculous rate. The current state of IP law in the US is an obcenity.

So... under this bill my video camera will be illeagal bacause it's analog input (aka the LENS) allows duplication of the image on a tv screen? Is the image recieved and decoded by my retina and converted into information later to be decoded by my brain now a violation of law? Or will an exception be made for this? Screw tv I'm going back to sodering live electrodes to my genitals for entertainment. --Quatl
