I do not have to as you are obviously showing your selective ignorance. Here is what I can say, if you only listen to one side of the story, that is all you have.
Well, with there now being undeniable video of CNN and NYT actually being the antithesis of real journalism (which NBC is doing as well), why should they allow them to continue to spread disinformation?
This has more to do with greed and the quest for absolute power than it does with capitalism. Capitalism should not be conflated with evil, however it can be used as a tool when abused as with all tools. Remember always that it never has been the tool that is evil as they are usually inanimate object or concepts. It should always be remembered that it is the PERSON(S) who uses it for detriment that is the evil part.
You have missed an even better story. Due to their stellar job at keeping our person information secure, Equifax was awarded a no bid contract for personal identification for the IRS. Oh man, now we are really f*%ked.
Agreed. As we have seen in the past time and again, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Do I want to see a couple of large (and OBVIOUSLY biased) companies determine what I can and can not see? That I believe is the question that should be asked.
Another is WHY did 4chan show up so high in the results list? Did they game the current algorithm that companies are currently using? I would say yes.
You are correct, however, that is usually just a hold on the amount until reconciliation can be done and in most cases that is not instantaneous. You can still reverse the transaction either way. I have done so many times. Yes, with a debit card after the 24 hours, the money is gone and you have to wait for it to be returned.
Yes, that was the beginning of the "End of the Travel Agency". This is yet another example of a technology advancement that does actually take out other elements of an industry.
You are correct that they had there own internal system, however Eastern had the first distributed reservation system that communicated to all major airlines in real time not just their own carrier. So while they may have developed their own internal system, what we see today is NOT entirely their doing.
I was wondering when that was going to be discussed. I have not heard any information on what happened and the root cause of the site intermittent availability.
I agree, unfortunately by today's standards, the waterfall approach has it's limitations with respect to time to market and R&D costs. SABRE finally did make it away from the mainframe centric architecture (some time in the later 90's) and thus could adopt more modern life cycle management techniques.
On another note, the SABRE system (American Airlines) was in fact a system that was comprised of the core system originated by Eastern Airlines (named System One) back in the late 70's, early 80's. SABRE and System One added functionality to market these two separate systems to travel agencies who previously had to use telephones to call into an airline reservation centers. System One was later branched off of Eastern Airlines into a separate entity under Continental Holding Co. before Eastern went bankrupt in the early 90's and was later sold to Amadeus. SABRE is still SABRE as far as I know, however Amadeus was the original purchase of System One.
And how do I know this? That was my first job that got me started down the path of computers as well as my distaste for COBOL after C was standardized in 89.
There were actually 4 big ones marketed to the travel industry back in the late 80's
PARS (TWA)
SABRE (American)
DatasII (Delta)
System One (Eastern)
There were other airlines that utilized similar system, Pan Am had "Panamac" ( I think), Continental/America West/Alaska Airlines had "Shares".
Bulllshit!. If responsible use of a credit card is like a condom, not using a credit card is akin to abstinence thus providing you MORE protection, just not as enjoyable.
I do not know about your debit card, but mine is my bank issued Visa card (e.g. no fee). So as to consumer protection...... the same. That pretty much debunks your entire statement about better consumer protection. And especially about your "uneducated" and "stupid" behavior is just ludicrous. Since when did fiscal responsibility become uneducated and stupid? As for only being for the poor because they can't get a high credit rating?????? WTF????? Are you kidding me! That seems to be a real elitist attitude there, you think!
Also, most places I shop, actually REMOVE the 2-4% markup for cash and debit transactions and again obliterates your argument about consumer markup.
The ONLY payday received is NOT to the consumer it is to the credit card company otherwise they would not have a viable business model to even exist. My advice is to start acting in a fiscally responsible manner and you will not have to play their games. Which is the better of ANY options that we have now.
In conclusion, the part of just to accept the free money......You are part of the problem!
I disagree with the "all you can do now" comment. The information is out there now, but the safeguards that you are purposing should be enabled by default. Anytime you apply for credit, it should be inconvenient as possible to ensure that it can not be abused. Otherwise, just live within your means. When an industry (identity theft in the $billions) is created expressly from stealing information, either invalidate the information or make it more difficult to utilize it.
Either way, a vulnerability has been exposed that now put the entire working class of a country in a very bad situation. Me personally, chose to invalidate the means to utilize the information that they obtained and I refuse to use anything that requires it. Is it inconvenient? Sure. But ask your self, do you want to perpetuate the problem? Credit monitoring should not be an expense put onto the consumer, that should be the express liability of the company that is accumulating and utilizing your data.
I believe what you are seeing more of is actually a debit card (directly tied to a fixed account with pre-deposited money amounts). The transactions go through the credit card companies, but are directly tied to a bank account and not a line of credit.
Debit cards (your EC card equivalent) are offered with most bank accounts created here in the US as well. The transaction do however go the major credit card company systems just like a credit transaction but it checks your account balance. So not much different from your country. Most people here is the US do use debit cards and only use the credit cards for things that they do not have the cash on hand (e.g. traveling). Most use credit cards only to differentiate between personal and business related expenses (note I said most. There are some who abuse).
(Equifax) - "Well, we did run into some cash flow problems recently"
(Buyer) - "Oh that should not impact our decision too much (pull up credit rating)....Oh, well that's not good. Okay, now we we need to do a criminal background check (pulls up criminal background). Are you kidding me!!!! How come you are not in jail right now?"
Do not conflate free speech with lying. That is what got your party into the situation to where they are.
I do not have to as you are obviously showing your selective ignorance. Here is what I can say, if you only listen to one side of the story, that is all you have.
You are asking that on a tech forum? Sometimes you have to wonder why they call this site "News for Nerds"?
You mean being laughed at by an AC? Meh. You are as irrelevant as the username you posted under.
You have not been paying attention. Look it up your self if you have doubts.
Well, with there now being undeniable video of CNN and NYT actually being the antithesis of real journalism (which NBC is doing as well), why should they allow them to continue to spread disinformation?
Right back at you. Do not delude yourself that the Obama DOJ did not do the same type of surveillance, they just never had it reported on by the MSM.
Of corse he is. What would be the fun of trolling a grammer nazi-wannabe.

Yes, they do have an IT staff that handles all their security matters. That is how they got Podesta's emails last election.

Ditto, that is where I started my IT career back in the early 80's. System One in Miami, Fl.

Thank you for pointing out EXACTLY what I just said. Did you interpret it differently?

If Equifax really wants to address the problem, they should purchase a company like LifeLock © and adopt it as standard operating procedure.
