Until Microsoft Xtreme Object-oriented Active AJAX#.NET on Rails, Service Pack 1 ("MS XOAA#.NoR SP1") is released, you can pry Java from my cold, dead, fingers.
Categorical imperative is an interesting philosophy, but -- at least the way you describe it -- it has flaws. The obvious one to me is the fact that it would be disastrous if everyone in the universe suddenly travelled to any given restaurant restaurant at any given time. Does this mean that going restaurants causes moral harm?
The assertion that the statement, "Women choose not to enter engineering because they aren't interested or lack the aptitude." implies the statement, "I am happy with them choosing not to enter." is crap. The former is an explanation of an observation, while the latter is a statement of emotion.
the company that... is generally acknowledged for inventing multimedia (with the Amiga 1000); had switchable GUIs, multiple processors, independent graphics processors, decent (stereo) sound and graphics, and scripting capabilities back before most other computer platforms even thought about such things; had reliably chainable external hardware well before USB; etc.
I agree with most of your post, but Commodore did not invent the Amiga. Commodore just purchased the Amiga development team when the latter nearly ran out of money.
Also, don't assume that KDE and GNOME are the only options. I personally run Window Maker (with various dockapps), with fspanel, and KeyLaunch, with xtrlock (invoked via keylaunch) as my screen lock. On top of that, I use various shell scripts that I've written over the years.
Desktop systems, especially for certain classes of users, are highly varied. Good luck trying to study them!
One of the first things I'd do is to see if there is an unencrypted swap partition/file on the drive. It's amazing what kind of interesting stuff is stored in swap.:)
To paraphrase Schneier, it's important to answer the question, "Secure against what? Secure from whom?" I doubt your encrypted filesystem is going to be secure against someone dropping a grenade on the CPU, for example.
Western "democracy" is only useful as a safety valve to allow the ruling elite to be replaced by means of a non-violent revolution, assuming that the people get mad enough that a violent revolution could actually be successful. Have you ever noticed that hardly *any* information about voter is extracted from elections, which all seem to use first-past-the-post voting systems? That's part of the reason why you end up with essentially two-party systems.
Also, it's an open question whether majority rule (or "mob rule") is really a good idea anyway. It's certainly not something I'm going to trust blindly.
How many Linux distros ship with ext3 data=journal (the only ext3 journalling mode that will really prevent corruption in the event of a crash) enabled out-of-the box, anyway? I've always had to enable it manually (tune2fs -o +journal_data/dev/hdx and reboot).
Adding numbers modulo particular cube roots.

Hmm... I wonder what kind of radioisotopes a person could get into their sperm, and how long they would remain in the offspring...
I'm more worried about people who can swap/steal/disable all or parts of the database!
Nobody said anything about copyright infringement. This is plagiarism, which is different.
Of course, we don't be able to hear them coming, because of another genius robot we're all very fond of:
So... Identical twins aren't human beings?

But I thought Microsoft's interfaces were already perfect! Just ask all those MS fanboys...
I would define "belief" without using the word "believes"...
Nice troll. (I hope.) :)

Then why post as an AC?
... is, "Who's 'Cloud'?"
You can't prove that solipsism isn't what the world is
Maybe not, but I don't see how modeling the world that way is useful.
so should one choose to accept that point of view, it's not your place to tell them that they're wrong.
Egad. When did "it's not your place" become a valid argument, anyway?
Occasionally, the dust has tiny metal filings in it.
You had colour dials? How long ago was this??
Yes, in the same way that you must always engage enemy aircraft when they violate your airspace in wartime. :-)
