While it's always cool to hear about new tech coming out, it makes me crazy when I hear about a new tech that is going to replace an "older" tech when the "older" tech hasn't even been around for too long. So, right now, I don't even own any bluetooth things. If this new Wibree thing starts to proliferate as much as bluetooth, does that mean that now I will have to monitor everything I buy to make sure that it works with my particular hardware? IE will I have to make sure my new laptop has both bluetooth (for "legacy devices) and wibree for whatever nokia throws at us?
The same can be said about just about any new tech that is to replace and not be compatible with old tech. USB, IMHO, did it right. USB2.0 is backwards compatible with USB1.1
It's news to people who constantly bash video games as the source of all that is unholy in our society. Do you really think that people like Jack Thompson know or would care to know that video games just might be helpful?
This is exactly why I tolerate facebook. When I first joined, it was only open to college students and faculty/staff. This "walled garden" of sorts kept most of the spam, kids, and old creepy people out, for the most part.
If they do open it up to the public, I will promptly cancel my account. I had an instance of an old girlfriend stalking me on myspace (long story short, I had an account from back when it first started which I thought I deleted) and I don't need the same thing off of facebook. I don't want to have my profile open to the public. I don't need 3 to 4 (or more) e-mails a day from random people asking me to add them as friends when I've never met them or know not who they are. I don't need the random invitations to groups that I don't know about or know anyone in. If I wanted that, I'd go back to myspace.
My university is currently testing a system called coursestream, which combines video from the lecture with the instructor's uploaded powerpoint slides, which get sync'd on a webpage in java. I will not post a link, as I do not want that server slashdotted!
I work as support staff for my instituion's moodle http://www.moodle.org/ installation. While the software does have some bugs, it has generally served our purposes. Our other LMS that we are phasing out is a propritary system, and their management has us basically under mafia style control on our contract. They demand thousands for the simplest of fixes.
Having a LMS that is community supported and open source has allowed us to not only fix many of our own problems, but taylor our system to our specific needs.
Now, cellphones underground are nice, but really, especially with the speed at which the trains travel, one does not spend too much time underground. Besides, the trains are far too loud underground. Sometimes, it's not even possible to have a conversation with the person next to you!

...wow. I can't believe I clicked on that. I'm going to have nightmares for months...

...and this after watching brazil...
Hate to be a spelling nazi here, but there is a difference between loose and lose
loose adj. Not fastened, restrained, or contained
lose v. To be deprived of (something one has had)
windows update uses ActiveX controls, so basically that means that, no, you won't be able to run it from a non-IE browser.
