  1. There should be an insurance fund for fraud on WA Law: 5 Years in Prison for Gambling Online · · Score: 1

Some of the money saved by not having to incarcerate non-violent criminals should go into that fund and victims of fraud should get reimbursed from that fund. Of course, we should first garnish as much as we can find from the perpetrator. And, of course, the perp should get a criminal record. Jail time for those crimes is a dumb idea. Too bad our laws are based on laws from the 1800s where you get thrown in jail for life for stealing an apple.

  2. Almost mid air collision happened to me. on Airbus Plans to Expand Cockpit Automation · · Score: 1

Late 80s, early 90s I don't quite remember. I was flying from Greece to the US. We were over the Alps and I was sitting by the Window on the right side of the plane facing NE. It was a beautifull scenery. In the distance I saw a dot in the sky and the dot was getting larger. In very little time the dot passed under our plane maybe 100-200 feet. It was another Jet. It was so close that I saw the cockpit. Of course it was blurry since the jet flew perpendicular to our jet @ 500+ mph. This of course happened at 30,000 feet. Now, for my opinion: I think airplane flight can be automated easier than cars for the following reasons: 1. Fewer planes than cars. 2. They run on a schedule. 3. They have deterministic flight paths. From point A to point B. 4. They don't talk on cell phones. 5. They don't eat/drink/eat/read books.

Well sort of, they are the one who will be affected the worst when the gulf stream conveyor belt stops. Just kidding. Really, since this is a global issue and since one country can singlehandedly cause this why do we have to wait for US Public Opinion and Public policy to change? If a guy next to you is smoking and blowing it in your face, would you wait until a law passed saying he couldn't that to you anymore? CZ

The US Government has a huge budget to support itself. Huge chunk of that goes to support our military which is the only thing keeping the crazies of the world from kicking out butts. With outsourcing, american workers will make less thus paying less in taxes. How the heck is the government is going to support itself? I think it's all great in the short term, the rich owners of the US industry will outsource alot of our jobs and make a ton of $$$ but in the long term, the US will be a bankrupt country. What are they going to do with all their $$ then? CZ

And, they have the bucks to go buy a new set that supports whatever DRM comes out. I know I am one of them but I won't bend. I am keeping my Panny with Component Inputs. I think this new crop of HD DVD players will die like Divx did, it's way too restrictive for consumers. I think consumers can only take so much. The content providers are going a bit too far with this one. I don't think the law can help us either. In a free economy, the seller can peddle anything they want and the buyers are free to buy whatever they want. No one held a gun to my head to buy my now hobbled HD set. Market forces should make everything right though. Depends on how many sales they'll get for their DRM-laden HD DVD players. I can definitely see a firmware upgrade 1-2 years into it to turn off some of the crazy DRM. CZ

  9. I think the problem is that existing DRM sucks on RIAA: Ripping CDs to iPod not 'Fair Use' · · Score: 2, Interesting

Why can't DRM tie the purchased song or movie to a particular owner? Why can't playback devices also tie themselves to the same owner? Once that is accomplished, devices can play any song or movie their owner has legally purchased. Why is this so complicated? Later CZ
