Oh yeah, the reason it died is that he drove away the other developers.

SkyOS underwent many changes after this surge in popularity. Because of significant differences at the source level, Szeleney stopped thinking of what was under development as the fifth version of his operating system, and the name "SkyOS 5.0" was rebranded to simply "SkyOS". perhaps it's the fact that they started the company under the mantra of "don't be evil." come on, Microsoft had to compete when it started out and they did a lot of douchebag things. remember how windows 3.1 wouldnt run on DR-DOS because MS sabotaged it.

David Cole and Phil Barrett exchanged emails on 30 September 1991: " "It's pretty clear we need to make sure Windows 3.1 only runs on top of MS DOS or an OEM version of it," and "The approach we will take is to detect dr 6 and refuse to load. The error message should be something like 'Invalid device driver interface.'"

so dont tell me that competition keeps businesses honest because it's the biggest load of bullshit i've heard in a long time. there is plenty of competition in the tech market and everyone seems to be going with the sue the competition into oblivion form of competition. microsoft has their smartphone OS but everyone is using Android so they decided to extort money from everyone.

installed KVM as phony IT guy, were arrested and here are their names

this is all the information the article provides. no details of any kind. no picture of the (hopefully stealthy) KVM, how they were caught or anything of any interest at all!

    Here's the real scoop:

A man dressed as a "maintenance engineer" (IT guy) claimed to be sent by a some company working for the bank. Then he goes to the bank branch's main server and plugs an external KVM-over-IP box connected to an ethernet to wifi adapter or at least that was the plan. The plan was thwarted at the last minute... no info as to why/how but I'm betting that the server either didn't have a PS/2 port or didn't have VGA output not that it matters without a username and password to login.

A spokesman for Santander insisted that the bogus engineer had not managed to install the device and no customer money was ever at risk.

We are pleased that we have been able, through the robustness of our systems, to prevent the fraud and help the police gather the evidence they needed to make the arrests. Santander operates multiple levels of controls to protect customers' funds and this attack would not have been successful.

Hours after the bogus engineer attempted to fit the device to the computer server, officers from Scotland Yard swooped arresting 12 men on suspicion of conspiracy to steal. As for how they were caught, I think someone just realized there wasn't supposed to be an IT guy there and then the cops got called.

i looked up what the penalty for poaching is an found out some interesting info.

    - wildlife tourism is the backbone of the Kenyan economy
    - before last June (2013), the punishment was a fine of around $480 and maximum jail time of two years, which were very rarely imposed.
    - at the start of June, Kenyan parliament changed the fine for poaching to a $120,000 fine and a potential 15-year jail sentence.

Kenya only has 8,500 elephants and 1,025 rhinos. if you think the punishment is too harsh then you should consider that poaching is destroying an essential part of their economy. honestly, i think the punishment should even higher because it's equivalent to economic treason. i say treason because when the animals are (nearly) wiped out, tourists will go to other countries and give money to them instead.

if you have obstinate views on ethics and morality, you should stop reading here and if you are a mod, remember there is no "-1 I disagree!"

i'm no tree hugger but there is also the consideration of what is the value of a human criminal (extremely common) versus the value of one of these animals (very rare in comparison). if you REALLY want to get the message across (desperate times call for desperate measures?) then having public executions for poachers seem like it would be a sizable deterrent for teens who want to make a quick buck (ivory is >$1000/kilo). it's an issue of ethics and morality: for the good of the state versus the good of the individual.
