That's funny but it sounds like they are already doing that. The 170 kids are beta testing, I'm sure they'll be working out a few bugs (non-technical and DEFINITELY some technical ones) before the 750 extra ones they plan to add get to show up.
My TiVo often picks up on signals during commercials for certain shows which asks me to "Press to Record" while I'm watching live TV or a recording, or even when I FF through the commercial.
Instead of blocking FF (which makes it take way longer to watch most shows), why don't the networks figure out how to display the highest-paying ad as an image that's right below or above the little time track meter WHILE I'm fast-forwarding? That way I'm exposed to their silly advertising in enough time to view their ad message clearly, but I'm not wasting my time watching full-length commercials.
As soon as it passes the commercial segment the image goes away and life remains happy.
For my wife and I it captures the beauty of our ever-growing concurrent set of reality shows fine for us. There are still weird color and shape glitches in scenes particularly with low lighting and low contrast, but the sound quality seems to be fine - and not like we can tell on our old 27-inch TV.
Definitely still better than my crappy VCR, which is basically what I was going for. Medium Quality is a waste of time - not noticeably different from basic to my eyes. So we either do Basic to get as close to the full 80 hrs in the living room and 40 hours in the bedroom as possible, or do High every once in a while for something we might save to the PC and have the option to make a DVD of it in the future. (Haven't played with that feature yet though either.)
All in all I'm happy with it which is good because I don't think I'll be able to afford the cash on a Series 3, or the time it would take me to learn how to make a MythTV box.
To me: 4. It forces you to use High Quality. We record all our stuff at Basic to maximize space, so in these cases recordings made on the fly take up more space than we really want.
"Call this science? what a load of bollocks. This is what you get when you need to print a newspaper every day."
Whoa!
Please, turn off your computer, your cell, and your iPod and go lie down outside. You obviously are cranky due to the variable electrical fields surrounding you.
Luckily I appear to be immune from this dangerous global epidemic. Maybe I can sell some of my blood or something?

Depends on how you define crapola.
