Unfortunately, you seem to pretend to be up on the global warming debate, but only one side of it. First of all, your "Petitions Project" is led by Dr Frederick Seitz. I'm not sure if you're aware of his credentials, but I am; Seitz's research has been paid for by, among others, most American Oil Companies and the government of Kuwait. Not really unbiased sources, are they?
Secondly, while there may be no consensus as to the impacts of global warming, there is a concensus that it is in fact occuring and changes are being measured (rising sea levels, temperatures, etc). Check the EPA website if you don't believe me.
I've read about 50 articles on both sides of the issue, and it's pretty obvious that humans are measurably changing the planets' climate. it would be wise to see what trouble we are getting ourselves into instead of dismissing it out of hand.
Anyone have a URL for HHGG (either the binaries or an online version)? I was only about 5 years old when it came out and didn't read the books until a little more recently;)
Actually, i've done a fair amount of reading on this in the past, and i seem to recall the reason lucas wouldn't convert the original movies to DVD was because of the fact they used a different surround sound standard (AC3/Dolby Digital) instead of his preferred (and ILM-owned, I believe) THX surround standard. I remember how they used to have receivers at Circuit City that would decode THX but now it's all DD so this seems like a dumb reason. But, Lucas can afford to not make as much money for an ideal (sorta like Carmack in that way, i guess:).
There's a plugin called PitchFork for WinAmp that lets you do this sort of thing. Basic beat counting/synching etc. Although to do it right you need a mixing board and 2 sound cards.. I suppose you can use DirectSound if you really wanted to;) For linux, I dunno (although I'm sure some others out here might have some idea:).
By the way, is playing MP3's instead of cd/vinyl while DJing explicitly illegal here in the US?
