    Not only is this just plain unethical, it says essentially nothing. Obviously killing mice in different ways is going to result in different genes being expressed. What was this, a Freshmen Biology experiment? Any one of us could have told them this, and then they wouldn't have had to anesthitize, strangle or decapitate mice!

    Actually, I've noticed that sitting in front of a computer screen improves my health. It appears that the radiation kills any germs that might make me sick, and it leaves my skin soft and smooth (the dead stuff just falls off).

    This should make it pretty obvious that switching operating systems, whether it be from microsoft, linux, apple etc isn't going to be easy.
    Its the same idea as learning a foreign language. Did anyone find learning a new language easy? It takes time and experience to be comfortable with.

    I've worked in an IT Department department which has bought several hundred PCs and servers per year from a large computer maker, and I wouldn't say they "cater" to us. They really don't speak our language. In fact, their service people exist soley to make our lives difficult. This is especially a problem because with hundreds of machines, you can't just go out and buy a new network card from circuit city when you need one.

    So if you wanted to do a bit of graphic design, and wanted to use GIMP, then it would be pretty easy to pick GIMP out of a menu, wouldn't it?

    For this project, gratuitous use of XMLHttpRequest appears to be in order.

    All this hyperbole surrounding AJAX is just that - hyperbole. I dunno exactly what your requirements are, but the first thing you can do to ensure that AJAX XML requests don't bog down your system is to decide whether you really need all that fancy AJAX stuff. It's neat stuff, but the majority of web apps can still be done the conventional way, without wasting time on AJAX code
