"the hoops" as you put it, are basically registering and activating the device, and letting you put music on it. Your saying putting syncing and updating movies and music is easier on an android phone? Cause that's not the case, not by miles with my HTC incredible.
Almost every default app is terrible, and has to be replaced. I even hate the replacements, so it just forwards everything to my real phone (a jailbroken ip4)
app quality - don't even get started. Hows infinity blade coming along for android? sigh.
Actually, i like to modify every little facet of my phone, but i'm not happy with the fraction of people working on Android that there are on iOS. (i'm not just talking dev's, i'm talking underground markets and dev scene's that are bigger than Android's official channels.

Except that app approvals have been under a week for months now, getting down to about 4 days recently if i've heard correctly.

From the iphone, or i can SSH in, or i can use itunes. Can Apple force me to update like my droid incredible? No, but it will prompt me when i sync it in itunes, which is no where near the frustration level of OTA updates. Can't just ignore a community of developers cause Apple told you too, I thought you loved doing the opposite of whatever they say!

Honestly, the Incredible feels easily just as locked down as my iphone 4. There are 5 or 6 Verizon branded applications, that you can't delete. When i first got it, (and i had the model with froyo already installed) I was prompted for an OTA update, I had read it stopped people from using the one click root tool evolution, so i tried to opt out, by restarting, saying no etc. Regardless it would remind me every 5 min, until i rooted, or updated.
No phone just allows you to change carriers... iOS users have unlocks that let us work on other networks, extremely helpful when you arrive in london to sim cards in vending machines. local rates & tethering? Yes please. the 4.2.1 unlocks are out for most iOS devices, iphone 4 being the main one absent, however it will go as well.
so there are upsides to it as well. I travel alot internationally, and it's a godsend to keep my phone with all my contacts, and get local pre-paid calling rates.

Android's browser hides it's url after the page is loading by default. You can never see the full URL on smartphones anyway.
