I saw the wsj article as well. it seems to me the article is trying to pass it off as a geocities. at least thats my thoughts. I think its going to be impossible to stop people from lying about their ages there, as its human nature to lie. I think the better thing to do is to monitor your kids online use (if you can).
I don't think they will ever impose a broad tax. It would be nearly impossible to regulate.
All you would have to do to get around it would be to use proxy and ip spoofing to make your browser tell the store site that you are residing in the same state (that is if they do their taxation based on ip addresses)....
I'm serious! but from what my friend was saying they plan to do some custom work. Not to use it as a game box but to let the box become more of an entertainment controller on the car. I've already told him not to mess with the xcal because if he started trying to merge the two systems the car would most definitely quit working.
now fast forward to the present.
I've only seen one of them in real life actually being used. None of my friends use it.
so is this going to be another hype engine? he should prehaps donate it too all needy people, if it is so good.
you can write your own custom multimedia converters using their software and its all open source.
To me thats an excellent tool to use in this adventure.
now if you have some time and want to play with converting this video (its 20 mb in size) check out:
http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/pictures/thunderfev er/movies/incar.avi It's a Racetrack street legal cars movie. It's an avi so that might be fun to play with converting to other formats.
if nothing else you can use xine to play the movie on linux.
now if you want to see some cars racing on a race track: http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/pictures/thunderfev er/movies/incar.avi
(its 20 mb so if you don't have a fast way to download it, don't bother)
