On that note, developers that strive to become great PS3 platform programmers have the opportunity to make more money because they have a skill set that is not easily obtained but is desired by their employers.

"Come on in and pay whatever you want"
I saw it more like:
"Come on in and take a cheap party favor. If you like any merchandise you see; we have a box set for $82.81."
If only government provided a protected disclosure almost like the Good Samaritan law. You help someone that is choking and crack a rib you're protected by law. Why this can't be applied to computers.
Having a private company provide disclosures have too many issues to contend with that can not easily be resolved. Example: http://ha.ckers.org/blog/20070911/why-i-never-posted-rspolicy/
Blah blah blah, atmosphere this and that. Lets get off of our one track minds and develope other means of solving problems. So, the atmosphere is in your way. Do it the American way and blast the atmosphere out of the picture. We already have blur correction to deal with turbulance. I know I've seen Lasers used to litteraly create a hole in the atmosphere. I must admit I wasn't able to quickly find any articles on lasers used this way, however it may not be some magical Harry Potter crap as much as a more simple approach of simply blasting it out of the way.
Blur correction

Reminds me of sites like Channel 4. I wonder if the reason for limiting content to the UK and the Republic of Ireland is also strictly monetary. http://www.channel4.com/video/the-it-crowd/catchup.html

The same reason most people want to be promoted.
Increased benefits and paychecks... That's enough motivation for me.
If I document the stuff I hate doing I can eventually have someone under me do it instead.

Heh, I counter your "If you're a really a good engineer, perhaps you don't need to stay all night. " with.
If you're a great engineer and don't need to stay at work all night. Just imagine what you could do if you did stay all night!
