I think there're several Verified By Visa procedures... with some cards they ask just a password you can set the first time you use your card online, with others they ask the one time number from the token, my bank sends me an sms with a code...

Yes, Romans are ahead of Egyptians...

In Italy we already have a law that force you to pay if you want to take a picture of any national monument (like the Colosseum) and use it for commercial use. And it's not limited in any way by the age of the creation.

The fact that the law is not strictly enforced doesn't mean it not exists. As most of italian laws, it will be there, silent, until someone decides to apply you a fine or, worst, to stop your video production, or shut down your web site (with methods similar to Chinese).

Obviously it's more easy to apply the law in the country of origin, so Italians producers of books, websites, etc, usually pay the royalties to the Italian Ministry of Arts or simply removes the pictures (like the Italian edition of Wikipedia).

    Egyptians... amateurs.

  5. Re:Italy & US on Italian Phone Taps Spur Encryption Use · · Score: 1

While that may be true, it's mostly a different issue from that mentioned in the article. At least in Italy, according to the article it seems like its a proliferation of over the air eavesdroppers that are breaking the mandated GSM encryptions, which has known flaws. As often, the real story is much simpler: in Italy the cops have access to all comunications from the local phone providers during investigations. They can have all the calls they need (probably they have access to a big HD full of wav files!) and 'sometimes' some interesting calls reach the press... grin!

No hackers... no phreakers... no algoritms... just a smart cop with an USB pen.
  6. They forgot Italy! on U.S. Puts 12 Nations On Watch For Piracy · · Score: 1

I think in the top 12 should be Italy... as far as I can see (and I live there) all small companies involved in graphic design, software development, and similar, use more pirated software than original, and often only pirated software. They claim it's because the software is too much expansive, but they didn't even try to us any free alternative, or to buy just the software they need. The hard disks of this companies are full of any kind of software for a total worth of hundred thousands of dollars. This is a problem for the few companies that try to use original software, because it's hard to compete on the market when you have higher costs than your neighborhoods.

How to get real flames from you hardware:

    1) Use your color laser printer to print at least 30 sheets
    2) Disconnect your printer (AC and network)
    3) Remove all the toners (usually 4 colour toners) and the drum
    4) Take an air spray
    5) Use it to clean the toner dust in the most hidden part of your printer

    That's it! You'll get 70 inches flames!!!

Cellular Phones doesn't work at high altitude, at least not in Italy an not on GSM service. A friend of mine worked for Alitalia as a technician and sometimes he flyed on short test flights from Fiumicino Airport (on Boing and Airbus airplanes). Just take off, few minutes around, and landing. He usually go around on the plane to do some checks and there are no flight attendents at all. So one time he didn't turned off his phone just to see what happens. The phone was connected to the network during the take off, but in few minutes he lost the signal at all.
