You'll notice lately that US troop casualties have been falling while Iraqi casualties have been rising. This is because our troops have been retreating to fewer, larger bases, performing fewer daily patrols, and patrol in more heavily armored convoys
I love it when handing over the responsibility of patrolling Iraq to the Iraqis becomes "retreating". This is the problem. In your view, there is nothing that can be done right by the military or the administration. If US troop casualty levels stayed the same, you'd be wringing your hands saying "when will they be able to defend themselves?" Since they are defending themselves, you say we are retreating. It's easy to Monday Morning quarterback this situation. Just listen to CNN and transcribe their comments to /.
Why dontcha take a ride with the "retreating" troops one day and see what life is like outside the burbs?

The President NEVER "declared" an "end" to the "war". He stood on that ship and declared an end to our offensive role in the war. Despite the "mission accomplished" banner in the background (which is probably wallpaper on a lot of the computers being used to read this right now [it's a by-product of getting your news from Steven Colbert, I guess]). Are we still on the offensive in Iraq? No. To use what would be outdated terms, you could call it an end to a battle in a larger war. Perhaps the problem lies in the fact that we are not fighting a uniformed army, people seem to think that we are just there to rape and pillage these people. You forget that there are people who think that they are instructed by their god to kill those who are not like them. I seem to remember that there was a time in this country that there was a group of people who thought that people who were 'different' were 'lesser'. Rightfully, we put an end to that. Do you think that all people deserve to be treated as equals, or should those oppressed in Iraq be treated the way we used to treat Indians, Blacks and women in this country? Should they be the European Jews of the 30's? Do we not have a responsibility to the world to ensure people are treated equitably?

That's not the point, the point is that some obscure grant got roundfiled [whether purposefully or accidentally-doesn't matter], and now it's time to break out the guillotines and stop this damned "fundy" inquisition.
Fact is, evolution is a THEORY. It is held on to because it's a safe position. It cannot be disproved because disproof relies on the same science that forwards the theory. If you think that there is solid proof to the theory, ask for someone to show you a 'transient species'. You will receive one of two replies-"You are a simpleton who doesn't understand how the 'theory' works", or "Well, it's just a theory, and we as a community have decided on this one point to remain blissfully ignorant to the fact that in 0.0% of cases has there been a 'transient species' found." From Lucy and the Piltdown Man to the T-Rex with feathers, the Hobbits, Nebraska Man, Ramapithecus, the Professor and Mary Ann!
Evolutionists will allow you to believe that "science" means "irrefutable facts", when they really mean "a bandwagon I got on and will defend to the death, but you better not ask for proof, or I'll call you an ignorant Fundamentalist for holding onto something (whether your argument is creationism or just a factual debate) without 'proof'"
Take the evolution v. creation argument , and if the book is "Origin of the Species" substitute "The Bible" and vice-versa. Also use "evolution science" and "the Crusades" in a similarly interchangeable manner.
Science has elevated evolution to a religion, and the "religious right" has made a poor attempt at imitating science with the term "Intelligent Design"-It's kinda like having to qualify a conversation with phrases like "I have a lot of black friends", or "I know a lot of gay people"
C'mon(fellow) Christians, let's call this what it is. God Created, not intelligently designed. Calling it ID profanes the work God has done. Jesus didn't set up a table in the temple and undercut the moneychangers out of business, he went in and cleaned house!

However, to take evolution through its' logical paces, there MUST be a transitional species between this and both its predecessor and progeny. If this 'link' will ever be found or not is a matter for the future. The evolution 'camp' is not required to produce this link to support its theory, because those in that 'camp' already believe it to be true (having faith in their way of belief). Those in the ID 'camp' feels that their way of belief has to be disproved by the evolution 'camp' beyond a shadow of doubt, this 'proof' must be strong enough to overcome the thought that some "thing" is responsible (having faith in their way of belief).
