I've been seeing a lot of 'I wouldn't be caught dead in that' here, and I have to say, I don't think most of us need to worry about that. I got the feeling that this wasn't really meant for the average slashdoter out there. Kinda like it was targeted at more say, the teen cluber. I mean, if it was meant for the slashdot crowd, then they forgot the PDA, TransMeta Processor, DeCSS Code on the back, etc....
But it 's a step towards something that we might like. And when that comes, I'd be willing to bet that it'll come in a wide enough range of clothing that we'll all find something we like...
It comes down to a matter of support. If I say something that can end me in jail, or the poor house for stating my views, then I will not speak. If however, I can speek freely, and then other's join my perspective, and enough are there, then, and not before can a Figurehead come to light.
Why did the founding father's hide behind psydonims(sp?)? Because it was safe, however once there was support for their idea's, they were able to come out and be the standard bearers.
The first project my Comp Sci teacher ever gave us to build was a password cracker. He invented a fairly simple, but not transparent algorithm for encrypting user names and passwords, and made the password list avaliable to us. Programs were scored on cleanness of code, and speed.
It made us all feel good (in an Evil type of way, of course) to be able to "hack" usernames. It also drove home the point of using strong security. Over all, a heck of a lot more fun than 'Hello World'
When was the last time that you saw them do a good job of sugery? Or heard a really deep Phililosy debate?
They only have two hours, and I don't know many people that can a)Stop the Bad Guy b) disarm the bomb c) have a romantic scene with the random girl that just shows up. in under two hours, yes they can play with time, but this stuff takes work, lots of it, months often as not. No one wants to see some poor schlub going to work every day, they want to see him chew out his boss and just take that five minutes and imagine it's them doing it.
I'm not a big fan of a first person shooters, but after playing Heavy Gear II on my friends system, well, I just had to get a copy for myself, buy a new videocard and pick up a joystick.
I was impressed with a number of things, the water rippling as you slid through it, the AI's noticing that and wasteing you, the fact that you could run, drop into a crouch, then prone, and sneak up on the computer, the fact that you can almost perfectly mimic actions and movements that you (the flesh and blood you) could do... Spin from cover, pop off some rounds, and then spin right back.
I swear, this game is what Mech Warrior was meant to be.
I've found one problem, might just be my lack of attention span, but I just can't see the white rabbit during that special feature. I'm running a one year old Creative PC-DVD x5 as I recall.
If it will have a setting for "Anonymous Coward" on the chip?
Personally, I think the idea isn't bad if the idea was just used for sales and had no practical purpose, but if they actually try and tag me like a hibernating bear, well, that might make me cranky.
If I recall correctly, AOL pitched in a fair chunck of change to get that movie made.
Besideds, a love story staring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan tends to give a bit better press to online relationships (i.e. people online - more ad revinue) than the tale of a woman who things didn't work out for.
Got 9 before the scroll disapeared.
19' at 1600 x 1200.

I'm still getting used to this Linux thing, is this an Xfree86 thing?

Felix.
so how do I go about ignoring this whole thing we call "time" and go back and get a '57 Chevy right off the production line?
I mean, theory is great, don't get me wrong, but I want practical, like a car with damn big fins on it.

Gahhh, it is soo damn cool.
Felix.
Don't know of a fix, I'm just happy to know I'm not the only person with this problem.

Maybe...
