  1. Well in my office on Word Vulnerability Compromised US State Dept. · · Score: 4, Insightful

Most people who are not familiar with IT in the US Government have NO IDEA how dependent even the military is on MS products. Think MS based virii, worms and exploits aren't on classified networks? Networks that don't even share a common hardware link to the internet...

  2. Re:It's not "lesser/greater" its the strange evolu on Chimps Evolved More Than Humans · · Score: 0

A good example would be my boss. He and his family are extremely fudamentalist Christian. No drive to produce anything more than what is needed for them to survive long enough to die and go to heaven. He has 7 children and plans on making his wife pregnant again this year. I on the other hand have had a vasectomy after having two children. I'm raising my children not in church but in the best learning environment I can provide for them (5 year old daughter plays classical violin and can use her linux computer good enough to make pictures with the GIMP). My children will likely grow up intellectually enlightened. His will likely grow up thinking the "Rapture" is near at hand so we don't have to have environmental controls and all of that evolution garbage MUST be impossible because the Earth is only 5,000 years old. If it wouldn't kill(literally, she has a small uterus) my 5' tall wife to have another baby I'd get right onto passing my genes along.

  3. Re:Hmmm.... Confidentiality? on Google To Add Presentations · · Score: 1

I agree with you 100%. I use MS Office products about 4-6 hours a day at work. Google will never be able to replace Office in my organization mainly because 99% of the documents I generate are classified. I'm not about to go to jail for typing my stuff on Google. Although my mother's business might be able to do this, but she needs a guarantee that her work will be available 24/7 and Google can't guarantee that kind of uptime for free, but OpenOffice can.

  4. Dollar Store Jacks on When the Alarm Clock Runs and Hides · · Score: 2, Interesting

I once bought a pack of jacks, you know the old jacks and bouncy ball, from the dollar store. I would put my alarm clock on the other side of the room and throw them down on the floor around it. When I would get up to turn off my alarm, I'd either have to wake up enough to step around them or suffer the bloody feet consequences.

  5. Why Sony why? on New Sony DVDs Not Working In Some Players · · Score: 1

Message to Sony, I live in Afghanistan and I can go down to the local market and buy a copy of Casino Royale for $3 US. It is almost indistinguishable from a retail DVD, nice case and everything. All you are doing is screwing the legitimate customers who want to buy your movies. I for one was looking forward to buying a legit copy of Casio Royale but I guess I won't be doing so because how can I guarantee it will work in all 7 of my DVD players (I have one in every room)?

  6. And where should I have heard this from? on Web Based Turbo Tax Disclosure Vulnerability Found · · Score: 1

I'm pretty upset reading this article due to the fact that I have been faithfully using Turbo Tax for 7 years now, this year included, and I have yet to receive an email form them along the lines of "Your information might have been compromised." Shouldn't the customers be the first ones to hear about this? Thank god I read Slashdot.

  7. It's sad to think on MS Says Vista Selling At Twice XP's Pace · · Score: 1

It's sad to think that I'm included in one of thosee numbers even though my copy of Vista will never be installed. The upgrade came with a Toshiba notebook I bought just to wipe of Media Center and install Ubuntu. With the newest version of Flash for *nix (yes, sad to say my killer app was Flash) I have absolutely no reason to ever touch a MS OS again. Anyone want to buy a Vista Upgrade?

  8. The Apple is not a toy... on Can Apple Take Microsoft on the Desktop? · · Score: 1

My friend's Dad worked for Apple back in the early nineties, and I do remember an ad campaign for Apple called "The Mac is not a toy". Ironic now when people say that video games are key for Apple's adoption into the mainstream...

  9. And the big winner will be... on Mr. Ballmer, Show Us the Code · · Score: 1

If this gets big enough to garner national attention on news programs, Apple might be able to spin it into "We can't be sued, and we're not bad guys, so buy Macs." And people will adopt Macs at an even faster rate than they are now.
