How exactly are those new genes being selected? I mean, lactose tolerant guys are more likely to have sex with a girl in Europe? Do japanese chicks dig guys with dry ear wax? Or do lactose intolerant people in Europe just die before having any children? All that seems unlikely to me.

From a more practical perspective, next time I'm on an English pub I'll just order a glass of milk. It's a good day when science helps you score.

I think it only proves that people are lonely and want to get laid. A lot of men don't care if the girl they're talking to is so dumb that she's a bot, if she wants them, they'll go for it. I think there's much of a cultural factor, but it's also a symptom of loneliness. A guy that's giving out his personal data over the Internet to some girl he never met is obviously out of resources. That guy doesn't have where to look for a girl anymore, any kind of woman affection will get him horny. It's kinda sad, actually.

The Turing test is pretty clearly defined. The tester has to know that they are talking to both a human and machine and the to pass the test the machine has to convince the tester that they are the human. Hence the parenthesis in the post title.
  5. Re:only 1/3? yeah right. on One-Third of Employees Violate Company IT Policies · · Score: 0

For every company that I've worked, there has always been a "proper use" policy for PC usage. None of them allow the web e-mail, StumbleUpon, Slashdot, Digg, and/or Reddit time that nearly ALL coworkers I've seen use (with me, I use all of them most of the day. They should give me work that I've been requesting. Small tasks do nothing to fill 8ish hours.) So you're saying you're useless and your company might as well fire you? Anyway, I feel that if policies are not being respected anyway, the need to be reviewed. I think it's fair enough to rely on the employees common sense and have real, doable policies. Telling someone he can't log on digg for the whole time he's at work is silly, most people have a little time now and then to access a non-work related site. Some people even need the break in order to be more productive. Policies against use of msn, aim, webmail and irc are also really silly. Sometimes talking to a friend will even help the guy at work. Or even if he's just chatting, as long as in the end of the week he gets everything you expect from him done, what's the point of not letting the guy have a little fun while at work? Take the time you were a student as an example, when you would study a subject at home, would you work on it for 8 hours straight, or would you take a break every now and then? Most people need those breaks, in my experience. Policies against e-mail attachments are also very silly, because if people don't know of the dangers and how to filter it, there's no way you'll ever avoid them from open an attachment from a friend every now and then. I think the companies should try to educate people, instead of simple denying stuff to them. That probably doesn't happen because most of the geeks are too proud to admit that someone else that's not a geek is a moron. Probably because he had his head flushed too many times by non-geeks ;). It looks to me that it's more of a policy problem than a problem with people who don't follow them.

Because of a few jerks in the world, flying has become just one big bullshit hassle. Which, for my own sanity, I refuse all jobs that require travel - bills be damned! Of course now with all the screening software, a bad credit rating will get you a second look by the TSA. I feel like that kind of action does much more damage for the society than the actual terrorist acts. Just think about it, you're much more likely to die in a car accident or from some cardio disease than being killed by some terrorist, whether you wear your shoes before entering the boarding room or not. Meanwhile, all this fuss around terrorism makes people really scared, as if it was one of the greatest dangers in the world. And that fear more than once have led to discrimination, xenophobia and a worriesome life. What I'm trying to say is that McDonalds and Marlboro have killed much more people than Bin Laden. If you want to live a better and healthier life you're better off changing your lifestyle to not consume cigarettes and high fat meals, rather than being suspicious of anyone wearing a turban.
