My only issue with e17 is the lack of the systray. The devs explain the reasons why they decided to not include it, and they are legit reasons, but still, the systray has become something inportant, and if it will never be revived then that's something that might keep me off of it in the long run. I always used e16 in the late 90s whenever I ran X11 off of a unix OS.
That's a bullshit comparison. You need to compare desktop operating systems, not a kernel and a desktop OS.
So you need to only compare the desktop? You do understand that this "Desktop OS" entirely depends on X11, hence it's ported to many different "Operating Systems" by itself. I can run GNOME or KDE on FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Darwin, Solaris, Cygwin, Linux - at least thats a start. The parent was correct, it's the window manager and application set you use on X11 that determines your "experience." Let me know when the X Window Server is officially an "Operating System" - it will be big news for sure. You need to learn what the correct usage of the term "Operating System" and how there is a difference between Windows running on top of DOS or OS X running on top of Darwin, and GNOME or KDE or whatever running off of a cross-compatible X Window server. There's a big-ass difference.
because the vibrator had to be used longer than designed, resulting in a short circuit.
I'm not surprised that the martian atmosphere is causing issues gettin' NASA's baby off.
"In later results, NASA found out out that the martian atmosphere actually helps with male ejaculation; The atmospheric pressure along with low gravity made a natural ejaculation travel 5 miles before hitting the ground."
Aw what is with this site? Are lesbians automatically modded down because they want to have a little fun with the subject matter who is female? You, mods, need to work on your tolerance certification.
I know xp drivers usually use the same resources as windows 2000, it's just that the installers might check to see what OS you are using, and freak out if you aren't using XP. I usually use WinRAR to pull these files out of the EXEs, and if i can't I run the installer and then copy all of the extracted files from your $TEMP folder before closing the installer app. I was checking out AMDs site for geode level support for windows, and it's pretty low, so I would personally depend on the drivers that came with the OS. There's always Windows FLP too, I prefer that over regular XP since its XP without the unneeded bloat. Also I feel bad for sounding harsh, just had a bad night so far; and putting it on someone else was wrong - so I apologize for that.
The main reason I suggested 2k is because the amount of memory that OS needs is considerably lower than XP; if you install it on an updated PC or laptop right now, you'll see a big difference. Same with Windows FLP, but not as much. Anyways, good luck with whatever your end goal with your Eee ends up being;)
The only difference between the hardware OpenTech uses and the hardware Apple uses is.. well... just the Apple logo on it. I don't wan't to go through hardware comparisons as I've done in a previous osx86 article, but all of the hardware - wireless card (broadcom/atheros, aka "Airport Extreme"), intel motherboard (aka apple "logic board"), realtek audio chip, marvell ethernet card, toshiba bluetooth card, synaptics touchpad, ageres firewire card, all inside a quanta laptop casing. All of them have the Apple logo on them, of course. I guess you can point at the fact that they use EFI compared to BIOS, though as of now you can buy PC motherboard with EFI.
Do you see my point yet? it's okay if you haven't. I don't know about you, but I personally think that using the term "Mac Clone" isn't correct anymore, especially with open source devs porting drivers to OS X as of now. Perhaps some hardware vendors may be using the term "Mac OS X-compatible" 5 years from now. I guess it all comes down to Jobs changing his ways.
The concept is to integrate computer technology into areas that cannot afford it. This is more than just "learning how to click things and checking your email", it (at least the initial plan) was to spread the knowledge of computer technology, programming, and to expand interests to areas that are involuntarily cut off from it.
And for your GeekSquad comment: People who work at GeekSquad are stupid. 99% get confused when "unix" is mentioned, so they whip out their nutsack to show that they haven't had theirs removed. I've had to help GeekSquad kids multiple times with issues; in fact one time I had to tell one of them that they have to use the 48-bit MAC address from the person's laptop in order to set up the router, and he blatantly stated, "Well, we only support Windows." Nuff said.
If you can find someone who is struggling with their preinstalled Linux laptop due to the retarded causes (like spyware, horribly fragmented filesystems, viruses, un-needed bloatware, driver irq issues, etc) that are common in Windows, let me know. Hell, Submit a post here when it happens. In the mean time, when someone in a third world country decides, "Hey, I want to make a program just like this (points at app on the screen) they have the freedom (as in costs) to learn about it and complete their goal.
Note that this is only an outside opinion, but your whole paragraph equates to someone being served a a nice wet-n-sloppy dog-shit sandwich, and quickly getting back in line for seconds. Though myself a unix dev, I'm sure any Windows user would prefer Windows 2000 to a horribly coded frontend to DOS. Hell, I still use 2000 (either Windows 2000 or Windows FLP) on a VM in OS X, *BSD, or Linux.
What am I saying? You would like Win2000/WinFLP more, since it's up-to-date and doesn't require heavy memory. But me telling you to use an NT OS instead of a DOS/9x one isn't really help at all; it's about as equivalent to telling a Heroin user to give morphine a try as a better alternative.;)
I find Industrial, EBM, and other staples in my listening tastes are unrepresented, but I don't consider those "major" genres.
I completely agree. This is the missing piece that they have; something you and I and many other people wish was there. Hopefully they will add it. Unfortunately, people still feel all electronic music is the same, so they feel some channel with a constant feed of repetitive house music will satisfy them all.
While satellite has LIMITED censorship I would not go so far as to say it has NO censorship. O&A were suspended for a month a while back when one of their homeless guests went on a rant about raping Laura Bush... The bit was funny in a sick kind of way, but when O&A basically refused to apologize they were suspended... as punishment even re-runs of their show were not played. As a 5+ year subscriber to XM I was appalled. While the bit was tasteless and disturbing to some I did not expect this level of censorship on satellite radio. It's only going to get worse... Reverend Al will get a subscription and then all hell will break loose.
Not trying to disagree with you at all, but I guess I would choose a different term than "censorship." There are still limits on extreme obscenity, and other things. You can't say you are out to shoot the President in the head. It doesn't matter where you are speaking at. I think the concept of raping the first lady is somewhat close to that. Can someone release some porno of a women who is dressed to be Laura Bush, hence is in the scene, where she is brutally facefucked? I think it won't matter how strict the release of it is dealt with, they will get a visit from the FBI (or equivalent). So that's why I don't think that it should be considered censorship, especially when it is protected under the government. If I misunderstood anything let me know.
lhmhi, you prove the point on why this is no monopoly. Aren't you worried about this merger? Why isn't this affecting the way you live compared to everyone else? Yeah, that's right, you have other things to listen to. I bet you that you could find channels on sat radio that give you what this station gives you, but the fact is that there is nothing making you get those channels. Hence, no monopoly at all.
Heh, please someone explain the filth that his show supposedly has... I've heard more offensive material than what he has. Is it the pro-homosexuality aspect of the show (George Takei) or is it the open opinions of the show? Controversial interviews? Sick humor (get over it, nerds love sick humor, and if you are grossed out by it then you're on the wrong website). Maybe it's the occasional use the the *quiets*... f-word used as an adjective... No no no... it's the pro-choice aspect of it. Or is it because he loves to make fun of a certain KKK member? Noooo... no one makes fun of the KKK. Oh wait.. he degrades women... yeahhh... give me a fucking break. With all the female listeners who love the show, the last thing he does is degrade females. If some porn star wants to come on the show, the first thing you would expect is for her to get nude. (What's funny is the same people who beat off to porn find this offensive.) The worst he does is point out the stupidity in porn stars. He's had an African American female co-anchor since the early 80s in DC101. Oh I know why you are disgusted with the filth... because every one who has never heard his show makes negative assumptions. That's the real reason.
Hehe.. Yes both are very much supported. It's called compiling the kernel module. broadcom wireless has been working since mac80211 was in development, and old ati cards have worked forever. I had an ancient 16MB ati video card working with drm support in the early 2.4 kernel just fine. You just have to *shocks* compile that kernel module.
Microsoft has said that, the MPAA has said that, many many hardware vendors have stated that it just "doesn't work for Linux." Give open source hackers 2 months, and I promise you that hardware will be working with the kernel, and ready to get ported to other OS kernels.
QCompson shows something that some businesses still haven't accepted - there will always be a way around the system. When Napster was taken down, they thought that it was all taken care of but they were wrong, since the use of Guetella shot off the chart. (for you chronologically anal folks, i know development of the listed software is quite not in order, but common use of it and the popularity of it is.) There was Kazaa and the FastTrack network, teh wonderful world of DC++, ed2k, and BitTorrent, which I find to be amazing technology by itself. ISPs are finding ways to slow down the connections (which is sad really, since the BT Protocol is used in many nets where only *legal content* is shared.) ASAIK every major bittorrent client now supports encryption, and if ISPs break through that, somone will develop a way around it. We might reach a point one day when FreeNet is the one way around our own ISPs.
This all makes me wonder what the Internet is. We know of the reason behind its origins, and in the 90s it became this world network created on the basis of digital anarchy in a sense. What do people think the final outcome will be in the end? Just another stream of knowledge limited by the government or something more still? I'm curious on what people think.
It's a GUI they want you to pay for. In fact they don't come with the open source apps mplayer/mencoder, ffmpeg and mpeg2enc, they make you download it separately. So, if you don't have issues at all with command lines, anything on ffmpegX is simple to run via the terminal, for free.
As a developer myself for OS X and Linux, I still prefer Slackware over anything else distribution-wise. Give 12.1 a try; it's not anymore "behind" than any other distribution, it just doesn't depend on a memory hungry framework that some distributions install (package management, settings management(uggh think openSuse) and it comes with gcc by default. it doesn't depend on offline package management, for someone modified apt-get to work with tgzs (slapt-get and swaret). And yes, you can download the kernel source from the ftp, build it, and install it along with the compiled modules without any struggle over dependencies. It's still "Linux", at least the one you are in search of;).
Also, I want to say that I think Ubuntu can be defined as an OS by itself (that uses the Linux kernel) is if they create a nice X11 interface that defines what Ubuntu is. The main issue between any 2 distributions is that other than the package management and any special apps they include, everything else is the same, and if not there, can be built and added. just for shits and giggles I compiled apt-get, and grabbed a few apps to test out. i also tested out the deb2tgz app that converts it to slackware packages, and I had the default gnome desktop that Ubuntu comes with on a Slackware machine. That's just the easibility of the friendly applications it comes with; if I only want it to look like the default DE that Ubuntu uses, I can put it on anything that runs an X11 server with a decent video card.
Oh well, the reason I am posting these opinions that I have is that I think Ubuntu can really become something other than "another user-friendly Linux distribution" if they design a special DE that truely integrates every piece of code that they run off the GNU based OS that runs off of the Linux kernel. Sort of the same way Apple has OS X running off of and is integrated with the Darwin OS, that runs off of xnu, the mach kernel.
You would be amazed how many people would be put to death if society decided to follow the bible as it is interpreted today. I can promise you, the homosexuals would be a miniscule portion of the people who would get their throats cut and stoned to death. Does "For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, holy to the Lord; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall surely be put to death," sound familiar? hehe. That's just one little line that plays a role against today's society, especially in the USA. The bible is fun to read and quote. You bring up quotes that say I'm going to hell, then I bring up quotes that say you are going to hell. Fun! God, what an atheist I am.
My only issue with e17 is the lack of the systray.
