The real irony was in spending much more time, keystrokes, and energy to write whiny, f-bomb laden posts that complain about how much more work it takes to look it up. For what it is worth, it took me 5 keystrokes to type "SCEA" into my google toolbar and press enter.
Suppose I am driving on the highway and there is a billboard. I decide that I don't want to view this particular billboard; so I hold my hand up to obscure my view of the billboard.
Granted, the person whose ad is on that billboard may have spent a lot of money developing the ad and paying the owner of the billboard to display the ad at that location.
But that does not take away my right to choose to not view the billboard. And it certainly does not give the advertiser the right to force me to lower my hand and view his/her advertisement.
The same holds true for the web ad. I don't feel that there is any moral issue here.
Advertising always was and always will be a gamble. Just like the billboard advertiser, the web advertiser needs to consider the content and placement of his/her ad. If you, as an advertiser, want to maximize the probability that I won't block your web ad, there are 2 things that you can do: 1. don't make an annoying ad. 2. don't place your ad on a web-site that has annoying ads.
If I block your ad, it doesn't mean that I'm immoral. It means that you are a poor advertiser.
Quote:Note that it is entirely possible for someone with extensive programming or sysadmin skills to score pretty low on this continuum. I have met such people.
I agree!! I can't tell you how many mainframe programmers I know -- some with over 15 years of programming experience -- yet they don't know how to even enter simple formulas into an Excel worksheet or produce a half-way decent looking Word document. I don't think that you can call them computer literate.
Nowadays parents get wigged out because the kids are getting tattooed. If this kind of technology continues, the next generation will be wigging out when their kids get little moving LED displays mounted in their forheads. Teenagers will be going around doing face-to-face instant messaging with their friends (literally face to face! No need to talk. Teenagers will answer parents questions via the LED message screen in their foreheads (sure to drive their parents crazy)
I'm not sure this is a good thing. Imagine walking down the street and finding some poor slob who had some kind of buffer overrun and is now standing on the sidewalk with the Blue Face of Death.
I still use paper and pencil to make notes, illustrate ideas etc. That's pretty old-school.

Wow... how incredibly not funny.
There is only a need to update the pictures of places that are changing, like your example of a construction site.....
How are they going to know which places are changing if they don't take pictures for comparison?
"The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from" :^)

Ok... now when this guy gets a second date with the same girl (not counting cousins or sisters) then THAT'll be news!
