I can't believe this crap is still going on - That would be like when Hatch is moving into a new house, and it turns out his cable is active (from the last owner) and since he didn't pay for new service, and is "stealing" it until he gets hooked up under his name, that AT&T should be able to blow up his TV. This guy is a moron, and I hope he dies a slow, painful death for damage he is doing to this country's already-screwed up laws.

I actually got my Sony for $275, while the A05 goes for about $50 less than that.... Well, for $50 I'll take both standards any day. And yes, you're right - I'm sure the A05 might make better discs for set top players, but with the players I've tried, I have found that only software affects what plays and what doesn't. I mean, it all seems to depend on how I burn those movies to whether or not they will play - I used one program on both drives, and they both refused to play. I make a slight adjustment on both drives with the software, and both discs now play on my set top players. I currently have a Sony set top player that's a year old and a PS2. While I agree with you that DVD-R is the only standard approved by the DVD Forum, I disagree that it will disappear. I wanted it to go away from the start, trust me - but it hasn't, and I had to get a burner that did both standards if I wanted to find the best price on discs. For example, my PS2 will only read specific brands of discs, ie Verbatim. Verbatim makes both DVD-R and DVD+R discs. I can get a 15 pack of DVD-R for $35 - but Best Buy and Sam's Club stopped carrying them, so they are next to impossible to find. I can however buy a 50 spindle DVD+R Verbatim discs at Sam's for $80, and they are very easy to find. So, I don't see your logic about DVD+R going away any time soon.

I was over at my cousin's place last week, and he bought one of those massive 60 inch wide screen tvs. I thought it was pretty damn cool, until I noticed something disturbing - even when we were watching something on ABC, NBC, or any other major network on TV in widescreen, we still had the black lines at the top of the screen like you would on a square tv. He has DirecTV, and all I could think is that this had something to do with the DirecTV feed, but I have no idea. I didn't get to see a DVD played on it, so I don't know how it worked like that. But, the widescreen stuff displaying like that on TV made me not want a big TV because the actors faces were all scrunched up, and you still had that annoying black space on the screen. I thought the point of the widescreen tv was to eliminate that crap. We messed around with all the display settings on the TV, but never thought to mess with the directv settings.

I completely feel your man. I installed Red Hat 8.0, and was insanely ticked to find out that the included RPM for apache 2.0.40 would not work with MX! Even though Red Hat back-ports most of the new fixes into their apache builds, CFMX was not smart enough to figure out it had been modified. I had to uninstall Apache, PHP, and everything else that was dependent upon Apache, and build my own. There's a reason I use a distro's RPMS people!! It saves me a ton of time, but when CFMX wouldn't work with it, I had no choice. I eventually got the updater 2 package to work with Apache 2.0.44... one day after fighting with it and finally getting it to work, I got an email that updater 3 is out!?! I haven't bothered installing it yet because I've already spent waaayyy too much time messing with it. It's just not worth it - stick with CF 5.0 and Apache 1.3.X!!

I've used apache 2.0.40 and 2.0.44. I use PHP and ColdFusion with apache on Red Hat Linux. Every freaking time I upgrade apache, I have to completely recompile most modules with it. And even once you get past that, there are some stability issues with PHP. I compiled in support for Apache 2.0.44 with PHP 4.3.1. So far, it's been a nightmare. PHP will randomly corrupt data that I insert into mysql tables. You may think it might be a mysql problem, but if I use the same database with Apache 1.3.27 and PHP 4.1, everything is cool. So, unless you have to switch, don't yet. They will work out the bugs, and then when they do, you know 2.0.X is gonna rock and become yet another legendary product put out by the Apache group.
