  1. Age old rhetorical question on Australian IT Workers Concerned About Migrants · · Score: 5, Insightful

Why is a global free market for goods considered good, but that for labor bad by so many inhabitants of "developed" nations?

  2. Desquamation on New Evidence in Historical Cannibalism Debate · · Score: 1

We are shedding our skin all the time (what do you think house dust is?). If one of civilization's characteristic is living in closed spaces, then consumption of human flesh by another human is a continuous (albeit microscopic) process. At the very least you end up with proteins (and prions) generated in another person's body in your stomach. Is it any wonder we are all slowly going insane? Maybe it's just me.

  3. What about the bandwidth consumption? on Google Video Store Announced · · Score: 1

We know that Google has been gobbling up dark fibre like crazy since last year. In that light, this announcement makes sense. What I'm curious about is how much bandwidth are they consuming and distributing at any one moment? Given that they have multiple centers throughout the globe, surely they have a tiered architecture of some sort, something like:

    X x 1Tbps
    Y x 500Gbps
    Z x 20Gbps

where X,Y,Z are number of centers for the given max bandwidth. With the new video distribution model, do they have a couple of Petabit/sec class centers?
    Inquiring minds want to know!
