I don't think that there are any pieces of kernel code assigned to the EFF. People contributing to the certain GNU projects are required to assign copyright to GNU, but I've never heard of people assigning code to the EFF.

First of all, do distros release too often thus creating too many versions to maintain? Secondly, how much faith do you have in the upgrade feature of install?

Maybe all these commercial groups should take a page out of Debian's book. Potato, the OLD stable release, is still supported and has security updates issued.

On the other hand.. How fickle people are! First Debian releases too slowly, now RH & Mandrake release too often! Is there middle ground?

As for upgradeability, upgrading between Debian distributions is a breeze due to the high-quality packaging.

So, MMC is definitely better in this regard.

BTW, the MMC card reader that came with my RCA CC-9390 DVC camcorder works under Linux with the standard USB drivers. It talks SCSI over USB and then the card has a x86 boot sector and partition table indicating a FAT filesystem. It all works. I was quite surprised and impressed.

I don't know if a SD card reader would work under Linux due to all the DRM crapola.
