The Firefox team needs to REMOVE the 'Top Sites' tab, or at least make it possible for the user to disable it, on Android. The existence of the 'Privacy Tab Browsing' is nice, but it's totally outrageous that for normal browsing there is a permanent indelible record of where you have browsed on display every time you load the browser.
That said, The Firefox Android browser is one of the main reasons it's even reasonable to browse the web on Android. If you use the default browser or Chrome, everywhere you browse is known to the Googleplex. I specifically NEVER log onto any Google Services from Firefox on my Samsung phone.
The Cloud has been spiked for months. The thing is, organizations like Google don't make The Cloud for storage optional. They produce attractive devices with no removable storage. Then a bunch of people chime on on forums 'why would you need that?' when the lack of removable storage is mentioned as a major negative feature. Google-worship and the cult of the Nexus takes over.
They went with a Linux kernel because it exists on more architectures than BSD ever had a wet dream about.
NetBSD was designed to be portable. Linux was kludged to be portable.
The same source tree, with a minimal number of switches set, builds a NetBSD kernel and userland on all it's many archs. With Linux, you have to hope somebody has duct-taped together a usable set of userland croft for your arch.
But why am I responding to ignorant foul-mouthed trolls on Slashdot?
Nevertheless, this has equally spawned a smaller but dedicated cadre of apple-haters,
Some of us have hated Apple since way before hating-apple became cool.
I am meaning, all the way back to when Apple started running the Apple 2 Clonemakers out of business with lawsuits. Let alone the useless first-gen Macintosh that only the smarmy fuck who had the Schwinn Bicycle (back when we were all kids riding Huffy and Sears bikes) could love.
What Apple does is lean on developers to only code new apps, and also old-app updates, to the greatest and latest version of the iOS SDK. So much so that my iOS devices have all had their apps 'leave them behind' in the update process. The App store is still there, but since you can't get back-versions of anything, your iOS device is pretty much useless if you don't hold onto your old apps for dear life.
It's almost the opposite of the Android SDK, where the build environment is set up so there is an almost confusing set of targets you can build to going back to the 1.x version of the OS if you wish.
It's what happens when you buy hardware where the software is a sole sourced value-add from the same vendor.
That explains why there isn't a version of Debian for Mac68K I guess. My little SE/30 has NetBSD on it, but I've never done much native compiling on it.
Yes, if you are running special software that doesn't just connect, but does so in a promiscuous mode where it intercepts traffic not addressed to it and records it. Thanks for the opportunity to clear things up.
When it came to light in 2007 why was it tamped down and not dealt with? Is there a history that needs to be audited to explain why it drifted (was pushed?) back into obscurity? Perhaps there's even more value in investigating this. Could there be agents that need to be identified and rooted out?
The above is speculation, but it's the sort of question that should be asked, and our understanding of the matter increased.
You're saying whatever you need to say to distract us from the people up on the top deck rearranging the chairs. The 'smart' phone market in general is made up of people who want phone and SMS and little more.
You know little about the Android market (tip: you won't learn much about it by brow-nosing Apple's product line so flagrantly.) Face it, you're an Apple enthusiast and cult member.
Personally, I wouldn't want a phone that I couldn't run Firefox on. But I'm weird about things like that. My three iOS devices are now in powered-off state.
Apple actively needs a 'boogeyman' competitor. Preferably one with a larger market share, and a product line that includes lower-end products (but said competitor can and usually does have at least some offerings that are superior to Apple's.) They're a boutique vendor and Apple customers will always need there to be somebody to feel superior to. And Apple needs a customer base willing to pay a premium for their devices.
That's been Apples market approach for decades, and it's not showing any sign of changing.
This Brony Unboxing a Happy Meal Youtube video from 2012 completely killed the 'Unboxing' movement. For gawsh sakes. Who cares. Take it out of the box in private.
No, the monthly bill is significantly more than the $20. The $20 part is so you can pay $900 for the $600 phone over the two years.

Slashdot? Anonymous Coward?
Incredibly naive.

"ACK" or "NACK"
Acknowledge, or Acknowledge-Inverted? So it approves in all instances?
he is the guy legally overseeing German Privacy Laws in the State of Hamburg.
That makes him an authoritative Hamburger, correct?
'Under the skin' is the magic dust the Apple marketing people came up with this time.
It's the Altivec Unit of 2013.
I've been maintaining the same .fvwmrc for over a decade now. It seldom needs anything but an occasional tweak.
The original vi is 'stagnant' because it's complete. Similarly, there are few new claw hammer designs since 2005 that anybody really cares about.

I remember when Objective-C was an alternative build environment you could install in Slackware. Back in, oh, about 1995.
It's just irrelevant. Like 'Nintendo 64' was a hype-deal, this is a hype-deal.

No, but we've reached Peak iPhone. It's over.
Don't worry, it becomes more and more elite as fewer and fewer people use iOS phones...
All them Altivec units, and whatnot. And RISC.
The good ol' Mac days.
Now, of course, the mantra is 'It's UNIX!' (which the Mac fanboys said was pathetic and ancient back then)

Right. And Android is 'linux.' And Xbox is Windows NT.

What did he say that made you so angry that you had to use profanity?
Stalin treated people with ideologies he disagreed with as mentally ill, and even put them in sanitariums sometimes.
It's really chilling to see people with that attitude in the 21st Century.
