Unfortunately, not all of us have Windows. I refuse to use Windows and will most certainly not pay for it. So, even if the book did come with CodeWarrior it would be of no use to me.

For the first time I'm actually on AOL's side. I have always hated their software and system for Internet use, however, being sued for this goes beyond their stupid interface. This infringes also on my rights (or possible rights) in the future. Is there anything that can be done to stop stupid filings like this? How I despise people that are clueless about technology and then try to regulate it's use...

You should have sent an email to support@calderasystems.com to get your free support. They would have made your day complete by telling you that pine is on the Installation CD in the contrib directory. :-) Cheers!

Think about the unsuspecting napster user who has never heard of Metallica and then decides to explore their music. The first thing he downloads is a quack song or something similar.... How much more interested is he going to be in Metallica's music now?!? There are hundreds of thousands of Napster users that will never even know about what is being discussed right now. I'm sure doing even this much to protest isn't legal or even wanted by composers.

  17. Phoenix Networks & Rhythms DSL on Thoughts On Third-Party DSL Providers? · · Score: 1

I have had a very similar experience with Phoenix Networks and Rhythms DSL providers. I have been with my local ISP for years, however, due to problems with USWest they were unable to offer DSL to my home---even though the guy next door could get it. Finally, after about 8 months of battling USWest I heard of Phoenix Networks & Rhythms through a friend. I decided it couldn't hurt to sign up and after three months they actually delivered. It was great until the first problem. A router went down on alter.net and I was unable to access my email and various other services through their DSL (my local ISP dialup could still access the services). I called up their technical support and they told me it was none of their business since it was 'outside' of their network. I would have been satisfied with a simple, "we know there is a problem and have contacted the owner of..." type answer, but instead I was informed that it was none of their business! In my opinion that translates to "We don't know and don't care for your business." and as soon as I can I am cancelling my business with them. I used them as a last resort for DSL and I certainly got last chance performance out of them. The problem took care of itself after about 12 hours so I was unable to access my email for 12 hours thanks to them---I know, pretty harsh. :-) Hopefully I will be able to use the lines for DSL from my local ISP who are 100 times more competent than the 'Big Boys'.

If this small program can do all that it did then I can only imagine what the full release will do. Yes, free software is nice, but so are good programs. I don't mind paying if it will do what it does well and apparently, Photogenics does that very well. I don't think this program should be shunned just because it isn't free software---although that would be nice. :-) To compare it to Gimp is also not very practical because the two programs have completely different targets. I would use them both---each has different strengths.
