They hate us because we're immoral, sort of barbarians. A moral person submits to god entirely, and follows his teachings no matter how inconsistent with reality they are. "Freedom" is essentially a refusal of submission, and is deeply immoral. To get a right understanding of how muslims look upon us, think about how you look upon cannibals. Imagine that we're talking of highly sophisticated cannibals, who are way smarter than we are, the feelings we have about them are still the same. I'm sure muslims will deny that, but if you want their real opinion, try eavesdropping, and you'll see it's exactly this way.

We (humanity as a whole) should by now have a much greater presense in space. The technology should have advanced to a far greater state than it has at time time. We are pretty much still stuck in the same place as we were in the late 1970's.

We do have much greater presense in space. It's just that scientists figured out that sending robots there is so much better, so you don't see many people up there. The public hasn't figured it out yet, and neither have you. But there's still hope for you, looks like G.W.Bush has the same problem, and he's in charge...

That's precisely it: freedom fighters against terrorists who are explicitly against freedom. There's no way to mistake one for another regardless of your point of view. A perfect scenario? No, because freedom fighters have done a some bad things. Instead of clearly staiting their goals they lied(not that they were completly wrong, but they didn't have any evidence), and now alomst nobody believes them. Ironically, arab street knows what this war is about - forcing arabs to westernize. Western street doesn't - people believe that this war is for oil, despite that they're paing lot's of money to arabs for that oil while US is in control of the industry... That's no good if only enemy knows what you're fighting for...
