Some friends and I have discussed this off and on, and frankly, we're not sure it'd work. For one thing, there aren't all that many vampires in the World of Darkness, relative to the human population. Next, everybody'd want to play a vampire. Or a werewolf. But how many would honestly be content playing a normal, run of the mill human, in a world secretly run by vampires?
Just given the secret nature of the World of Darkness, could an MMO survive?
It's an interesting article. One thing I always found troubling about Gore's assertions is that a mere 35 years ago, environmental activists claimed we were in a period of global cooling, as were only a few short years away from a new ice age that was going to wipe out all life on earth. Those if you 40+ may well remember this from the late 60's and early 70's.
Last year, there was an article on CNN talking about Norwegian fisherman catching southern fish not normally seen off their coasts. Yet the same article also pointed out that the same fish were being caught a mere 253 years ago, during another warming period in that region of the world.
Also last year, there was an environmental activist on a local news station, who claimed that there are 28,000 scientists around the world, who agree that we are experiencing man-made global warming. When asked how many disagree with the established view, she said, "Only two." I found it an interesting and wholly suspicious comment.
Innovative? Microsoft does not innovate, they wait and see what successes other companies are having, then either copy or buy the product. I have yet to see Microsoft innovate anything.
Heh, don't forget the 70's panic over the impending ice age. While now we keep hearing about the destruction of all life on earth due to global warming, in the 70's the "doom and gloomers" were screaming and yelling about the destruction of all life on earth due to falling temperatures and expanding glaciers.
Interesting how the panic has changed in just 30 years.
The conspiracy theorists among the Slashdot community accuse Beatles-Beatles of abusing the Slashdot submission system to increase his page rank with Google. One in particular says,
when people google for Beatles, they're going to get his site because he's abusing the Slashdot submission system
Bunk. Have you actually tried Googling Beatles recently? I did just a few minutes ago, and stopped scanning there sults after perusing 200 links as didn't see a single reference to Beatles-Beatles' web site.
The problem here is not Beatles-Beatles, but the idiots who would rather complain than just read the frigging article. Every time one of BB's submissions is accepted, a flame war begins. Last night was no exception. Frankly, I found the article interesting. Did those of you who complained actually read it, or was your only concern to once again scream and yell about BB.
I don't give a damn about the links behind a submitter's name. I don't look at them. I'm only concerned with finding interesting news.
Another user said, I'd rather live without a good story than have it ruined by discussion about the submitter. Again, it's not the submitter that's the problem but the ones who continually scream and yell. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that Slashdot should leave BB alone and should instead start sending warnings to those to endlessly scream and yell. If the conspiracy theorists can't stay on topic, dump them, not the submissions of a user with a reputation.
1978, I think it was. The old text-based Star Trek, on a TRS-80 Model I.

World of Warcraft
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Knights of the Old Republic
Final Fantasy VII
OddWorld: Abe's Odessey
I swear, that company needs to be obliterated. Microsoft's arrogance is astounding.
The only people who grow old were born that way to begin with.
