I used to have that standpoint too. Until I learned that the "green" revolution is 100% powered by fossil fuels and fertilizers made from fossil fuels plus minerals, some of which are also peaking.
Don't worry, Nokia's market cap will come down. And I think Microsoft should buy them. Now that they started alienating HW manufacturers they might as well get serious about it.
But, but, but... the Heartland Institute tells us otherwise! You can't prove that a specific cigarette caused your cancer, you can't prove that *my* SUV causes global warming and you can't prove that global warming causes this year's crops to fail! So take that, scientists! Duh. Next thing you want to tell me that the Earth is round, that we landed on the moon or that there are no chemtrails. Jeez, libtards.
There are no thorium reactors. How much do you think it'll cost to develop a new type of reactor and build it, compared to uranium/plutonium based reactors? Solar and wind energy are cheaper than *today's* reactors. And that is including federal loan guarantees for new reactor builds and unlimited insurance against accidents, without which no nuclear power plant would ever be profitable. Why do you think hardly anybody plans to build new nuclear reactors?
Yeah, we should rather spend all that money on importing oil! At least that does something for those poor Arabs and we get rid of that pesky money for good. And we even get some CO2 out of it!
Correct but it solves the main issue of solar power: That it's not available during the night. The molten salt keeps hot for days so intermittency is no longer a significant issue.
Not necessary. When we burn more than is being produced, the prices spikes. As soon as the overall economy is spending more than it can afford it contracts, reducing demand and the price falls. All but of the recessions after WWII coincided with an oil price spike. Just look at any recent graph of the oil price and any market indicator. John Michael Greer calls it "catabolic collapse."

Yup. Just run enough TV ads and people will believe you.
They don't necessarily have to die. Eggs and milk protein are far better proteins than meat. Ask any bodybuilder.
King crabs aren't much different from huge spiders.
That's why I never liked lobster. Nothing but huge bugs.
Mod parent up!
Yes, Nokia might make a great patent troll once they give up on making phones.
They decided against that some time ago and sealed their own fate.

That's exactly what's being done, and market forces preclude new nuclear plants. Sorry if you don't like that.
The 8-cores are thermally limited. I have an 8150 that has high leakage, i.e. runs HOT. It's a GloFo process issue.
Again, why, if wind and solar are cheaper? There's no way thorium will ever catch up in cost.
No, that tax money is needed to subsidize coal and oil companies and nuclear power plants.

Shouldn't you leave the design and sizing of the molten salt storage to people who do that for a living?
Yup. They were designed for high clocks and run very well at high clocks. It's purely TDP that keeps AMD from spec'ing them for much higher clocks.
Guess math is hard for greens.
Mod parent up! +5 Funny.
Yeah, we should rather spend all that money on importing oil! At least that does something for those poor Arabs and we get rid of that pesky money for good. And we even get some CO2 out of it!
Yup. Rush Limbaugh said so and everybody knows he's the foremost expert on energy.
You don't need rare earths for solar panels or wind turbines.
Using high power permanent magnets makes electric generators cheaper, that's all.
Why?
Solar and wind are cheaper and the storage issues are being solved.
Yes, that's why you design the molten salt storage to provide power for days.
Correct but it solves the main issue of solar power: That it's not available during the night.

John Michael Greer calls it "catabolic collapse."
OK. Factual statement: "There is an unusual drought which is decimating this year's crops."
