Really? I didn't know I needed your personal info in order to get your IP address. The last time I looked at the socket functions I must have overlooked the "Personal Info" structure that you claim is necessary to get a person's IP address!
Get a clue. I don't need to ask you anything to get your IP address if you willingly install my software.

Is there any sort of development environment for the Palm Pilot to control Mindstorms? I suppose OmniRemote could be used just like the Mindstorms remote, but a complete development environment on the palm would be pretty cool.

I think on /. there are enough comments that the FUD can be sorted out. If one person posts a message (anonymously or not) stating a fact, but 25 people post messages contradicting it, then I can safely discredit the original poster.

Actually that's the one thing I don't really want. Every time I get money as a gift I end up using it on something stupid like lunch (not even a special lunch, just my everyday lunch) or worse it goes to pay some other stupid bill.

I went to work for a company for a VERY low salary. I figured I would show them how good a coder I was, and they would up my salary.

I did too. Then after almost two years they had the nerve to give me a 2 1/2% raise. So I did what all good programmers have the right to do. I quit!

My next employer was very good to me (and had one of the worst reputations in the area for employee relations). In less than two years working there, I more than doubled my salary.

I don't disagree with you that there are PHB's out there who will screw you if you give them a chance. But remember, a GOOD programmer can walk across the street and get a better job for more money with almost no effort.

If you got screwed by your employer and you bent over and asked for more, then I have no pitty for you. There are a whole lot of great jobs out there with supportive management.

They never recognized your coding skills because you wouldn't let them.

If you are dis-gruntled about doing coding when you are not being paid for it them it becomes very easy to justify this kind of practice.

But you're still in the wrong here. Instead why didn't you create the best, most maintainable code possible and then show them. Prove you're worth the extra bucks and you'll get it. On the other hand, prove that you're a bitter script-kiddie and you'll get paid accordingly.

    No disagreement from me.

Just because something happens different than Windows, doesn't mean that it is more difficult and should be changed. UNIX/Linux is not a Windows clone, but an OS with it's own history and it's own rules.
Just because it has a long history doesn't automatically make it the best. When you take this attitude you confuse many people who were raised on Windows. I would have liked Lizard to ask me the mounting questions during installation. It would be pretty easy to mount the cd to /cdrom and also mount the vfat partition if one exists.

So when you buy a PC from Gateway or Dell you're not paying for the next generation of R&D? Who is then? Surely the margin (however small) that Gateway's suppliers are making is paying for the research. You are indeed paying for the research into the next motherboard, memory, and hard drive. You're even paying some of your money to Microsoft for its legions of programmers to perfect (?!?) Windows 2000.
