Obviously the powers that be are out to crush Julian. But how is it that portable phone makers, cell phone makers, and large numbers of banks and institutions that all have publicly claimed safety and are so easily hacked are not considered the enemy. We are now finding out that cell phones that claim to use all kinds of frequency hopping to shield calls really don't shield calls at all. Even the US military is lax in protecting data as are hosts of social institutions. So who exposes more data, Wiki Leaks or your standard cell phone suppliers? Let us all bow and kneel to the great corporations. They can do no harm, even when they do it over and over again.

  5. Fantasy Island Economy on New IMF Head Says US Must Raise Debt Limit, or Face 'Nasty Consequences' · · Score: 0, Interesting

The US has never had any real kind of economy at all. From 1619 until 1860 we lived off of newly discovered resources and slavery. Following the Civil War we survived as a nation by paying starvation wages, using child labor, and substituted wage slaves from the former concept of slavery. Then to make matters worse we began to taper off the rape and pillaging of foreign nations. The idea that all of us must earn our daily bread is so repugnant to the privileged classes that it is not even a consideration. This is not an anti US rant at all. Most nations have existed in a similar mode although the way they exploit and plunder others may have varied in the apparent details. I don't think we are very likely to see the upper classes wanting fair pay and fair rewards for their efforts. Do I think default to outside debtors is a threat to the US? It probably is the smartest of all paths we could take.

  7. Works Too Well on Law Enforcement Wants To Try 'Predictive Policing' · · Score: -1

The real issues have to do with money. The system can not afford to catch most criminals as it represents an expense every time they are caught. For example most cops know how to catch oodles of drunk drivers but the mayor won't allow it. We had two cops that simply watched people start their cars as they left a bar in the wee hours. When pulled over almost all proved to be drunk. When the cops learned who worked in the bar and what they drove the arrest rates approached 100% for all customers leaving after 1 PM. The cops were ordered to stop that practice. Another method was surrounding a poverty infested neighborhood late at night. They stopped all cars coming into the neighborhood in the wee hours and the burglars and dope buyers and sellers sank like a rock. Again the cops were ordered to stop that practice. Really all one need do is set up covert surveillance on known drug addicts and stick to them for a couple of days. Not only will you get them for buying, selling and delivering drugs as well as possession you will also catch them at all kinds of crimes related to getting money to survive or money to buy dope. The truth is that the cops must overlook a lot of crime as it would bankrupt every state if they reeled in all they could catch.

Business and crime are becoming the same thing. Go to Main Street and get inside businesses and most of them are criminal in nature. So why is it that we must allow an over abundance of complex contracts? How about a fairness stamp of approval for all contracts assigned by a neutral board? Expecting individuals to plow through endless layers of trick wording and legal jargon is proof enough of bad intentions to me. Those bad intentions need to meet justice head on.

The single fault found so far is that an accidental double click can pay a bill twice and it tends to not be reversible. The only issue I have at all is in any sudden reaching into pockets or purses when a crime is at hand. That might get someone shot but is no reason for arresting them. There are several problems but charge time is still one of them. We have crowded gas stations with lines at times already. Suppose that we had a twelve minute charge time as opposed to the three minute fill time for gasoline. It would be enough to clog cities with cars that could not move from lack of charge. Then there are the numerous power generating stations that would be needed to supply electricity to the charging stations. It gets worse. Even if each car must gather solar energy on its roof to propel the car spinning electric motors still heats the environment. Really population is at the root of all of our woes and population size can not be regulated without totalitarian systems of government. Maybe it is more important for universities to find ways to keep people from reproducing than designing better batteries.

  22. Won't Work on India's Schooling Experiment Tests Rich and Poor · · Score: 1

There are a lot of factors that influence kids as far as success in school is concerned. In an affluent family the child may not have much in the way of chores or work assigned to them. In a poor family a child may be up at 4 am throwing newspapers to help feed the family. The diet and medical care available to the poorer folk may also hold their children back. The ability to hire tutors or send kids to educational camps in the summer can have a huge effect. Even the emotional security of knowing that plenty of money is at hand to keep a home secure and running well can boost a child's abilities. In the US the trend is to bully the teachers and point a finger at them. This law in India seems to be an attempt to bully private schools and point a finger at them. The hard fact is that if the US closed down all private schools and forced the super rich to place their kids in the exact situations with the poor kids that the public school system would improve by leaps and bounds. No rich man could bear to see the conditions and dangers in many public schools let lose upon their child.

Left alone the American public will tend to turn life into a warped, horror story in short order. And the issues that are caused by too little regulation can be far reaching. For example we are now beginning to deal with over crowded prisons that are a consequence of too little aid to the unfortunates in our nation. The expense of true prevention is far less a burden than the expense of trying to repair the inevitable consequences of neglect. Tax cuts can be really, really expensive in the long term. And the long term is now.
