  1. Re:Stupid paranoia with ID cards. on UK MPs Approve Compulsory ID Cards · · Score: 1

The point is I already have a drivers license, and a passport. These ARE enough to prove my identity. Not only is it an infringement of civil liberties and a stealth tax, to force me to pay for an id card. It's a pointless excersise where the risks far outweigh any possible gains.

I dunno we seem to get nothing but "reality TV" which means Big Brother, Celebrity Big Brother, I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here (with those two Geordie twats), Celebrity Love Island (WTF???), Strictly Come Dancing (where "celebrities" dance for public votes), The Farm (famous for the pig incedent), Celebrity Ice Dancing (Imagine Celebrity Come Dancing on ice), Pop Idol, The highlights of your American Idol, Fame Academy, Celebrity Fame Academy, The X factor....... We get Desperate Housewives as well and to top it all off..... CHANNEL 5 DOESN'T SHOW PORN ANYMORE!!!!! As it stands I watch about 2 TV programmes. And did I not live with my parents I would NOT pay for it.

Yeah but who actually READS the small print? According to tiscali's terms my bandwidth should be throttled if I use a lot at peak times. I have yet to see this happen. And It's not like I hardly use it. I took out an 'unlimited' package because I need one.

I have an acer aspire 5021 (ML-28) and the lowest voltage the amd drivers will go to is 1.0 and 1.5 respectivley with no steps between 100% and 50% cpu clock through CPUID i run at the lower speed at 0.925V and the highter at 1.325V with no hitches apart from everything runs cooler and longer. I also get the added bonus of being able to set speeds in between.

We already have the kelvin scale where 0 is absolute zero - where all particles in a mass would have no energy. 0 K = -273 C All calculations involving heat and energy should be done using this scale or become invalid And I really doubt that the kelvin scale was used to give the figures quoted in the first post. They seem a bit high and arbitrary.

I am a CS student and will admit to being a bit geeky. What you will notice is that most groups of like people in society (well when growing up anyway) seem to define themselves/ be defined by what they listen to. Can geeks be defined in this way?

  10. Security by obscurity? on Firefox Usage Climbing In Europe · · Score: 2, Insightful

One of the reasons used to pimp firefox was that as the majority of people use IE, nasty people focus their nastyness towards the flaws in IE. Now it would obviously be ignorant to say there are *NO* holes in the security of the fox. Will the recent migration of users to firefox cause attacks to be aimed at it rather than IE? I did switch to firefox - mainly because I have witnessed IE die on a good few computers, and I like tabbed browsing, and the mouse gesture plugin. And although I dont know if I'm any more secure, it's not a huge issue - Hell I spend most of my time on unsecured wireless networks.

  11. What does the average user WANT to know? on What Should People Understand About Computers? · · Score: 1

In my personal experience, albeit little - I'm a CS student not employed in the field - so that extends to fixing friends' friends, my family (and their friends) computers whenever something goes wrong. Everytime they ask what caused the problem and I try to explain in as simple a way as possible (this could be a personal shortcoming) and how to stop it happening again the subject is usually changed or a blanket statement that they "Don't know about computers" supplied. The worst is my parents, the slightest little error or anything like y'know ones been downloadin pr0n and doesn't want the other to find out. You explain how to fix things, gain a bit more privacy and you can bet your kidneys that tomorrow you'll fidnd yourself fixing the same thing. They dont WANT to know, as long as I'm here they dont HAVE to know.

It gains the general mistrust and status of any other huge corporation. I love google, it's my gateway to the internet. I've always joked that Google==Research when doing assignments. I find it exciting and I really am happy for those involved in the immense success of Google, but on the other hand I can't help thinking that maybe it's getting too big now.
