I meant that I wanted it to be standardized and ubiquitous. Every year that goes by the need to plug my devices into anything goes down. Just a year ago I needed to plug my phone in to do a system update. Today that is a distant memory. I can't wait to see the extent that this reaches.

  9. Colorful Metaphors on NASA "Mohawk Guy" To Host Radio Show · · Score: 5, Funny

Some of you may not know who this "Mohawk Guy" is. He was originally born and raised in San Fransisco. By his early 20's he was a drifter, directionless and alone. He'd ride the bus all around downtown San Fran playing his boom-box too loud, much to the annoyance of the public. His spiked hair and bracelets discouraged just about everyone from voicing their opinion on the noise level until one day he met his match. Two brave men, both with thousands of hours of flight experience, boarded the bus and sat across from him. One man, noone ever knew his name, politely asked that he turn off that damn noise. He gestured rudely and turned his music up. The other man reached across the aisle and firmly pinched the man's neck, instantly rendering him unconscious, the boombox silenced the moment his head landed on it.

This unexpected event gave him a new direction in life to pursue. He went back to school and studied hard. Twenty years later he found himself working on the Curiosity Project. And the end result of that goal? He broadcast that damn noise as loud as he wanted where it would bother nobody: Mars.

Noone knows the fate of the two airmen that boarded the bus that fateful day. Rumors persist that one was a burnt-out hippy that went to Berkley. However, noone was able to find any documentation of a man entering the hospital overdosed on LDS.

One thing is certain: It will be centuries before we see all the profound effects this guy has had on the timeline.

Somehow I learned what Python classes are in my sleep. When I was just getting started with the language I had a hard time coming to grips with the terminology. I didn't know the difference between a Class and a Function. I had a friend try to tell me but it bounced off my skull. One night I had one of those stupid dreams where you work, this time I was scripting. Suddenly it occurred to me what a Class actually is and why it's different from a Function. When I woke up somehow I retained the memory, not long after getting to work I was up and running and writing Classes. I had to make a conceptual leap to get it and that inspiration didn't come until sleepy sleepy time.

Well that's not exactly what the article was talking about, I just thought it was interesting that I was problem solving in my sleep cycle. It happens from time to time. The human brain never ceases to amaze me.

I upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a 4S last year The 4 is still working beautifully and I keep it up-to-date because it will be my backup phone in case my current phone is put out of commission. The way I manage this is as soon as I get home, my main phone goes on the charger and the rest of the stuff I do (email, web browsing, etc) is done on the old 4. I could flip over to the old phone in a jiff, should the unexpected occur, and not feel like I'm using a foreign device.

I have an older 3G phone that I still keep around. I will not donate it because I'm not convinced I can wipe it securely. I never got around to it but I wanted to turn it into a clock. I thought it'd be handy to have that sitting under my computer monitor so I can keep a eye on the time while I'm playing games. Bonus points for showing me email notifications .

I found a $1.00 app that takes photos at certain intervals and uploads them to an FTP space. I was going to use that as a poor-man's security system.. well really I just mean a "what does my cat actually do during the day?" cam. The only thing stopping me there is I haven't figured out how to mount it somewhere. I imagine some velcro-tape will do but I haven't taken the time to try that out yet.

On a side note: I do agree with you about NOT donating it. A friend of mine sold me his iPod Touch several years ago. He did a factory reset on it, but when I installed Pandora on it his preferences came up. I guess he had it before and I was logged in as him (For fun I ran a bunch of Britney Spears songs.. I never did find out if I succeeded in polluting his playlist.) I need to be clear that this is a first generation iPod Touch and it's possible that Apple has since fixed that. But it was enough to make me wary of handing any of my old devices over to someone else. It's also the reason why I enabled encryption on my Galaxy Tab the moment I fired it up.

I have an old WinMo phone that isn't doing anything. Is there anything useful or fun I can make it do?
