  1. Can I Be The First....? on Testing Cell Phone Radiation on Humans · · Score: 2, Funny

I want to be the first person to sue the phone companies for giving me cancer. It was so annoying to be born a few years too late to get on the "Sue the Tobacco Industry" bandwagon

  2. Re:It doesn't matter! on Florida Voting Machine Logs Reveal Anomalies · · Score: 1

Doesn't it??? It may not matter for Florida cos as you say Kerry won there anyway.
But what about the other states?
If there's discrepancies in Florida's ballot logs, there may well be some in states where the Evil One came out the winner...

  3. I've been addicted on Computer Addiction or Just Modern Life? · · Score: 4, Interesting

I used to play an Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) and I was, in hindsight, developing an addiction to it...
When I started playing, I was working in a Net Café so I played while I worked, interrupted only by customers (who needed only logging on and charging for usage) and customorons (who would swear on anything that a password was not needed to access their AOL Mail...EVER)
When I finished work, I'd go home and play some more
Eventually, I'd need sleep so I'd go to bed, thinking of the game while waiting for unconsciousness.
Once asleep, I would, no kidding, have dreams which took place in or were heavily influenced by the game.
In one obsessively driven period I stayed awake for 8 days (192 hours), sleeping a grand total of 14 hours (mostly at/on my keyboard)
I quit the game a couple of years ago (which included a very difficult period of withdrawal) and have avoided such intensive game addiction since....
Nowadays, I work late at night (start at 1900, finish at 0530) and even though I don't often play RPG's anymore, I still sit up, frittering away many an hour browsing and peregrinating around the Net, long after I should be sleeping (e.g. yesterday (Tuesday), I went to sleep around 1430).

Computer addiction and Gaming addiction, both grossly underestimated, have been a problem for years. The growth of easily-accesible, high-speed, affordable Net Access amplifies this problem.

If you don't believe me, just try and imagine how you would feel if Internet access was, involuntarily, unavailable for a week...or a month....
Or how about this....It's December 23rd and your computer is Fubarred...
    Painful? Agonising? Torturous?

Internet Addiction is too often ignored or discredited. Surely, by now, it should be included in the DSM???
If no-one else, I reckon this guy would agree

  4. ID Cards aren't that big a deal..... on UK MPs Approve Compulsory ID Cards · · Score: 1

A year ago I moved from Ireland (no compulspry ID) to Belgium (Compulsory ID) and have managed the change without difficulty. In fact, in many situations, it has been useful.
The ID card here contains my picture, DOB, ID number and address. 3 of these are already on my passport (ok, granted the ID number isn't the same as my Irish passport number but it is of a similar vein).
Having my address included, which to some may be considered invasive, has proved useful when opening accounts (e.g. Bank, DVD Store, etc.) where a proof of address is needed. As the ID's are considered official, they are accepted as proof of ID and proof of address. So I no longer have to bring an electricity bill to open an account with the local equivalent of Chartbusters.
Other than that I can see no difference with having this card to having a Passport. In fact, just before my last visit to Ireland I ruined my passport by putting through the laundry. Turned out that holding a valid ID Card for an EU country was sufficient ID for passport control when travelling...
Maybe this system can be abused and therefore merits genuine concern but I have yet to witness this. Hopefully, it should be the same in the UK

"$99.99/month for my 'gold tier' service? I'm sure my company isn't going to pay for that shit."
$99.99/ month or $1200/year is still a hell of a lot less than it will cost your company to set up an office space and equip it for you, so your company will still pay for you to work at home.... And this is leaving out the fact that even if they do go and make you a place to work and throw a PC in there then they still end up having to pay $99.99/month for your Net access anyway. Think before you freak out.....It's a much easier way to live Deadlee
