An UAV is mostly a software research project because hardware is mostly well understood. If they have copied an existing one without access to source code the machines will be outdated quite soon. Disclaimer: I work on UAVs and UGVs

I love my 1.4GHz C2D 12" Lenovo laptop, it's great companion to my desktop. I mostly use it to watch movies and browse web, you know, the stuff that makes up 80% of leisure computer usage.

There are only few problems with it: heat and battery life. The battery lasts about as long as when I bought it few years ago (2-3h) but since my gf bought a new macbook pro I'm no longer satisfied with it. When the battery gauge on this macbook pro turns red it means she has around 2h left.

I see two apple products as replacement to my laptop: the new air and 2nd gen iPad.

  10. Rotate 90 degrees on Why Are We Losing Vertical Pixels? · · Score: 1

Buy a monitor with pivot function and rotate it 90 degrees when editing documents.

Prefer IPS panels when choosing a monitor as TN panels have very poor viewing angles vertically and it really shows when you rotate your monitor. For a good list of IPS panels look here.

After rotating the monitor the count of lines on monitor becomes more important so make sure you pick one with 1200 lines or your screen will be too narrow.

If screen rotate shortcuts are not already supported by drivers there's a small utility for windows called iRotate.

  17. deciving app on World's Fastest Robot Versus the Wiimote · · Score: 1

We have used a previous version of the robot, it was called flexpicker back then. The fexpicker had quite impressing acceleration of 15G. It was quite scary experience to work near the robot even when it was stopped.
The specific application could, however, be implemented by using even slow robot. The trick is to use what's called conveyor tracking. The button panel is connected to encoder that is synchronized with robot coordinate system.
Usually a more complex version of the application is used: the target object is placed loosely on moving flatbelt conveyor, the robot has to locate it by using smart camera and only then it can pick.
