    Al Qaeda is not our enemy. Terror is, apparently. According to The War on Terror, that is. That was to what I was referring. We can defeat Al Qaeda, but that is kind of a "no shit" item there. They are a cell of people that don't like us. So instead of cheer leading for a pack of consumerist egocentric gas guzzling war mongering Luddites (AMERICA) how about you try to understand why they hate us and why they have some valid grievances, not to justify any of their reactions however.

    There is no US and THEM anymore on a planet where we can communicate instantly with people throughout the globe, so stop living in the past.

    But they HAVE to see that this pattern of behavior cannot keep going as it is. Even Microsoft can't keep this up too long after the Vista debacle. I'd think that this would be a wonderful opportunity for them to shift their strategy to a more friendly manner of business. Not saying they should go all Google on us, but at least collaborating with other companies that aren't IMMEDIATE direct competitors as far as blu-ray is concerned.

    But their standard is completely dead now it seems, and to keep pushing for it is incomprehensible. I mean, they have to be more intelligent than that, right?! Although, as usual I'll expect my assumptions on the level of intelligence of others to be sadly disproven.

    Profit is profit is profit is profit, so why would they not take the opportunity to have an overpriced blueray disc player accessory for the 360? Doesn't seem like sensible business practices to me.

    With quantum computer I'd assume would come quantum cracking. This is the whole seemingly apparent dualistic nature of this universe in that either one side or the other will be ahead (encryption vs crackers, good vs bad, etc), and that will not last forever. Very wavelike all things can be when you see the binary facts to be merely the expression of the relative positions of two observed events. The crest and trough of waves are two of the three distinct points in waves that can be observed, the third being 'neither'...

    I have a worry of thermal pollution with nuke plants though. Hasn't there been numerous times where the water used for coolant has been too hot for the plant to use as coolant? That heat energy put into rivers has to go somewhere and I'd imagine evaporation can only do so much based on humidity and air temperature.

    Also, you probably did this with already having a mode of transportation and a place to stay. You weren't dropped into the workforce with NOTHING, you at least had some infrastructure supporting you, even if it was meager, and $7,500 goes away VERY quickly when it is used to get yourself on your feet.

    Alt: Thank goodness the economy can't survive without the internet anymore or else I would be hiding under my sheets. So at least for economic interests, some manner where worldwide instant communication will always be available. Thank goodness even moreso for encryption and darknets.

    I mean, this has me chilled to the bone. Ignoring the ridiculousness that in a "free" country we have "travel restrictions", the fact that they can legally perform such blocking with little or no recourse alone has me shaking.

    I fear we are too trustworthy in the robustness of the internet and I'm even more afraid of the day if the powers at large decide the bring the hammer down. I don't think net neutrality legislation would be effective against a determined oppressor, it only takes a few dragging anchors for them to tear through a few laws.

    Because there are possible beneficial applications of publicly placed cameras that have no privacy implications when in control of the proper oversight of a public body where no information is restricted or hidden as long as the public has 24/7 unrestricted access to view the content the cameras capture.

    I propose you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I agree though that it is unacceptable for a system to be in place that sacrifices privacy for security be it false or not.

    What value is a face with no name, or a street on which you know not a single person? Data only has value when used in conjunction with known facts, and the only people in the end who are going to be burned by such knowledge are the ones who reject it instead of learning how to use it for their own and other peoples' benefits.

    Furthermore, at least google has its images of public space open for people to view at all times. If you wanted to look through a government owned public camera do you know where to go, who to ask? Can you even get permission to observe those feeds? There is always a bigger bogeyman lurking around each corner, so at least meet him on your own terms instead of waiting for him to come at you when you least expect it.

    You're not looking forward far enough. The future of personal fabrication machines lies with nanotechnology. Imagine downloading the schematic for a new video card, feeding in the raw material components, and watching the nanotech gobble it up and crap out a piece of engineering developed with precision at the molecular level.

    But that system obviously favours those with large financial backing. Although I suppose using Obama as a template, his money is coming from numerous small individual donors, so perhaps that balances it out.

    I can't think of a system more effective than our own, to be honest. But I think there is some wisdom to be had from acknowledging the flaws that are in the system so that we can still remain well informed and aware of attempts to exploit these flaws.

    The problem is though that it is impossible to tell if his lack of support is due to his lack of exposure (supply leading demand) or that people are NOT ignorant of him and their response is valid.
