What a misleading title! First of all, it is a couple-week-old news. And second, nobody is going to kill UMPC, it will not be targeting the consumer market anymore ($500-$1000 and 5"-7" screens), where MID takes its place. UMPC will still appeal to professionals, though, with screens bigger than 7" and pricetags of way above $1000...
I see here many people attack Linus, or at least comment on his behavior. I also don't know the man and whether he has attitude problems (and who doesn't?). But I personally believe he is right!
When 10 years ago desktop environments for Linux started to be developed, I personally chose KDE over GNOME, because even then I realized GNOME was too restrictive. Both, from a user and from a developer perspective. Since then I use and develop for KDE. As a developer, I find KDE more flexible for my day-to-day job. It is true that GNOME is being developed mostly for end users with all those restrictions and limitations embedded.
KDE vs GNOME reminds me of Linux vs Windows dillema - the latter one may look fancy and cool in times, but limits what you can do with it all the time. And fanciness and coolness is just a matter of time - it all comes really quick to a theater (desktop and/or OS) near you.
Without RTFA it is absolutelly impossible to figure out what the Slashdot post is about - what video, whom does Google pay, what for... Citing first 2 sentences from the original article does not make it a good post. This is not how news description should look like.
I wonder, did they prove they have rights to those 30,000 videos? Or they just sent a note to GooTube requiring them to remove the videos and GooTube just silently swallowed that?
In a seminar held last week in Japan, the Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA) explained the content protection technology used in the BD-ROM format, based on the AACS technology.
In the beginning of the seminar, Mr. Ajima Kosuke of the BDA's Content Protection Group compared the protection scheme applied to the BD-ROM format with the one used by the rival HD DVD-ROM format.
The main difference between the two incompatible formats lies in the copyright protection system (CPS). The HD DVD camp has chosen to use the AACS technology only, compared to the AACS BD-ROM technology which also uses two additional layers of security, the BD-ROM Mark and the BD+.
So, here is your millionth+one time: there are differences in content protection between HD DVD and Blu-ray. Do your homework before you jump on someone with accusations...
Looks like Sony is loosing it on all fronts lately. The only reason they are still alive, is that they have deep pockets (still)...
The concept was great, but I guess they overcomplicated Blu-Ray technology with those extra (and useless) content protection layers that their engineers could not deliver in time and they shipped it half-baked. Too bad. Let's see if they can regroup...
Actually, the real mafia is RIAA, who extort money from public for themselves and not for artists! So, buying CDs is equal to funding terrorism, i.e the mafia, who threatens the people!
And brainwashed people like you falsely believe that everything corporations say is a law...

I've been using Verizon DSL for years now maxing it out 24/7 and had no problems so far...

Let me guess... Filesharing and pirates to blaim for this too?
This article serves no purpose and is totally a flamebait!

Yeah, Oracle swallows Ubuntu and we don't hear about it anymore. Rest in peace, Ubuntu - Gentoo is the only true reli^H^H^H^Hdistro! :)
Seriously though, unlike RedHat or Novell, Ubuntu is probably too small to make an impact for Oracle...
Why not share the space with your GMail account - 2.7 GB would be more than enough...
