The parties agreed that Facebook would swallow up Con- nectU, the Winklevosses would get cash and a small piece of Facebook, and both sides would stop fighting and get on with their lives.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the odds of that happening are slim to nil. I don't feel like digging for the source but I remember reading somewhere that trying to brute force combinations into iTunes was worthless because it would be incredibly slow and the amount of possible combinations is so high. Plus there is nothing to stop them from issuing the same number twice once a card has been used in the system and the amount has been credited to an account.
What I mean is that currently the debates are being put off in favor of immediate stimulus. Don't fool yourself into thinking that as soon as the bill passes next week the money will be there and suddenly everything will be glorious. The fact of the matter is that no matter what is included in the bill it will take time to sort out the funding and legal ramifications.
So why not just put it on there and get the ball rolling on it. My point was that if we can get $16 Billion into schools, if we send it in for debate we might only get $12 Billion. We might only get $1 Billion for Broadband. Thats a lot of money to lose out on for something that is a major investment in our Nation.
I would happily pay into the Stimulus if it included such things as this because they are things that I will see and experience. Helping the banks with their credit lines doesn't help me (personally at this point) as much as seeing $16 Billion invested in school projects and other infrastructure. Send people back to work, put money directly into the hands of people and employers who have jobs that need to get done. Then let the people put their money in the banks. Let them pay off their own credit lines and that in turn will helps the banks recover from this mess that they got us into in the first place.
the problem with this that is that a lot (not all) of the things cut could be thousands of jobs created too.
$16 Billion for School Construction? Its gonna take someone to build all those. $2 Billion for broadband? Someone has to be paid to lay the cable. Just putting them off again means they can be widdled down more and debated on further. When was the last time $16 Billion was on the table for school construction? When is the next time we are likely to see that much money offered up for something like this?
Maybe it's just me? But everyone of those issues listed is Tech related. I didn't RTFA but when the summary itself say's:
cybersecurity threats to U.S. government systems, terrorist cells flourishing on the Web, inadvertent file sharing through peer-to-peer networks, and sexual predators ensnaring unsuspecting youth through online social sites. And for a third time, the House passed not just one, but two, different bills aimed at deterring spyware.
Basically how is that not tech related?
And I agree, I sure as hell don't want legislators telling me what technology is right for me.
When parental controls are enabled, the computer administrator must authorize a DVD before it can be played....
to remove authorization, insert the DVD and choose Features > Deauthorize Media. Then either quit DVD Player or insert another disk to complete deauthorization.
I can attest to that too. Two of my friends got Wii's and we were all stoked when we first played them. They each bought games that are said to be best I guess (Warioware, Zelda, plus a few more) but after a few plays, and after the novelty of waving our hand around trying to do various things, we started wishing for just a regular controller. It really is a novel idea, the motion sensing of the Wii. Between me and my friends though, we've decided that that its gimmicky, and not something to base a console around. That being said, we can pick up Wii sports any time and have a ball. But even that is getting old.
My friend upstairs (I live in a dorm) bought a ps3 a few weeks ago now, and we can't stop playing it. He got VF5, R:FoM, Untold Legends (which we hate) and TH:Project 8. of all of those. What to me now is ironic is that we are actually preferring the sixaxis controller to the wiimote. Why? because the dualshock was was almost perfect to begin with, and the motion sensing is a very fitting expansion on it without wrecking the original (design wise, we do miss the rumble... but even that may come back*crosses fingers*) and it seems to find more convenient uses. Resistance, while not a SPECTACULAR game on its own, incorporates it nicely as a means to shake off the smaller creatures that climb on you, thus giving you the great dual shock, with another dimension. Yeah yeah, I know the Wii is full motion sensing. I havn't seen a game yet on the Wii that relies on the buttons almost exclusively and then uses the motion sensing where sensible. (RedSteel is a joke, as is Trauma Center).
I'm trying not to bash the Wii to much here cause it is a great console. Really, it does have a lot of things going for it (price, channels, Mii's, Wii Sports). But I see no way for the Wii to grow in the next few years. Really, what is there left for it to do? I'm waiting on Metroid and the new Mario. Of course these will be good games. But who seriously bought a 64, GC, or GB to play these and these alone? I own all 3, and they all collect dust despite the heavy amount of games purchased for each. I see this happening again with the Wii in a few years and It makes me sad. For that reason alone, I won't buy one for myself. I will use other peoples when the need to play arises.
I'm not a fanboy of gateway,I wouldn't buy one if given the choice. Its just the only tablet I've used.
As for taking notes, I'm using OneNote and the Windows Journal. All office programs can use the pen entry, which is also especially great for PowerPoint slides. I havn't tried any other programs for math entry because I write neat enough and its faster to just write it then try to enter it into a program?
Indexed and searchable, I supposed they are indexed the way I break my folders down in OneNote and corresponding applications. Searchable... well I just got Vista on my machine and I think the search feature scans each document for whatever you type. I don't think its smart enough to recognize what you write by hand, though I could be wrong, its pretty good about adapting what you write to text. I'll look into it when classes start up again
by Print/Copy/Send, I meant that I can email my notes to anyone on campus, I can print indentical copies without having to pay for a scanner or use a copy machine (they never seem to read pencil anyway around here).
no one around here has a scanner or a copy machine, and the campus has very few of them because its so easy to send things to each other. Our campus has cut down on our paper usage quite a bit because of this.
I currently go to School at Winona State in MN, and our campus works with Gateway to provide laptops to every student. Students have their choice of either a new Gateway Tablet or an upgraded Macbook. The Tablets on campus here are immensely popular, (I'm using mine right now).
I work in Tech support for WSU and another reason why I think they havn't caught on is the physical side of it. The hinges take a LOT of wear and tear. And the battery packs on the new m285's are a brick. Another problem we see a lot of is the latches that keep the laptop shut break. Because the swivel and hinge don't go back to the same exact place (like all other laptops) people slap them repeatedly to get them to close. The Pens also (in the 285) take batteries, and that sucks. Also because they are meant to be carried and used at the same time, people drop them. broken chasis are common place here.
But on the bright side, the functionality is amazing. Taking notes in math classes is actually possible! You can also actually use the MS Messenger draw function (minor). The big gain from them here is obviously note taking and then being able to print/copy/send your notes easily to anyone on campus.
The internal hardware isn't even that limited. I have 1gb of ram and on board graphics (I have the m275) and I'm running Vista right now. 40gb HD is kinda small but when these things are given to everyone on campus they plan for what most people will do with it and not over step.
As for other tablet's I can't say, I've only used Gateway sadly... give it a try before you bash them though. They are pretty cool if you have them in the right setting
From the Opinion:

Couldn't agree more
I always thought the AI in Unreal Tournament was really good. The difficulty curve is really intense. UT2004 and UT3 both had really intense bots.

Authorizing DVD's

So yeah, its all about Parental Controls sadly

No, because you would be shooting them out of season or at the wrong time of day anyway.
