It was *not* banned. What was restricted was the federal funding for the research.
There was no restriction in private companies being able to do the research. What is truly shameful, is that the Liberals have used this issue for political gain, by obfuscating the issue as you have by implying that all research has been banned.
Liberals think all problems can be solved by sending men with guns to take your hard earned money for their social programs. If the research was so promising, then there are a number of companies that would jump at the chance to make a profit off of it. Pharmaceutical companies have deep pockets.
to this airborne epidemic, was to have brochures handed out at airports and tell us to wash our hands. Whereas, other countries had heat-sensing machines where they would quarantine people that had fevers, and hand out masks.
Maybe someone needs to explain to him how these things are spread?
He got lucky, again. I hope for our sake that his luck holds out during the rest of his term.
The Chinese economy is dependent on the USA and will be for a long time. The last statistic I heard, was 1/4 container ships go to the US and 1/7 go to Walmart.
Most of China is a 3rd world country that can't afford their own exports.
Pelosi says it is un-American to enforce our immigration laws. How does that grab you?
It "grabs me" that you're misrepresenting what she said. What she actually said was first that the values of immigrants who struggle to make it in America is in itself part of the American spirit:
"that optimism, that hope, that courage, that determination of immigrants of your families when you arrive here make America more American."
She then asked her audience:
"How then could America say it's okay to send parents of children away? What values system is that? I think it's un-American." Later she added "who in our country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families? It must be stopped."
She is clearly attacking as Un-American the value system that believes kicking in doors at night and separating families is good. If you want to generalize that to "Pelosi says it is un-American to enforce our immigration laws", that's your own business, but it's clearly not what she was saying.
It clearly is. We have immigration laws. There are consequences to breaking laws. It's bad enough that people are made citizens just because they are born here. (We encourages more illegal immigration.) And now you want no consequences to happen to people that break the law and have children.
If Pelosi and the Democrats don't like the law, then they can change it. They've had Congress for over 2 years and have done nothing about it.
I do take offense when Americans go off to France, for example, and criticize our President or our country. All they are doing is selfishly making themselves more important at the expense of the rest of us. Its a kick in the teeth to the brave soldiers risking their lives for our safety.
You must be pretty damn insecure about your country then. And totally missing what's great about America-- for criticism of America by its own citizens is what makes our country strong- because American can withstand that criticism and also change for the better when appropriate. This country's strength is that it's in a way an "open-source" country (at least when its at its best.) . The more eyeballs who can find flaws and suggest improvements means that its flaws are discovered, debated, and hopefully corrected. It is the national right (and duty) to be critical of this country and speak about how we can be a better people that is one of the many great strengths of America. Self-analysis and criticism of America by Americans anytime, anywhere should be encouraged and celebrated. It is, in fact, the essence of our country of, by, and for the people, and is what our soldiers are fighting for.
We didn't say it was illegal, nor did we deny she had the right to do it. But we can disagree with her opinion. We have a right to our opinion that it is in bad taste to criticize our President in a time of war to foreigners. (I felt betrayed.)
A huge point of American democracy is that we can criticize our government in public. It's not disloyal, it's the POINT of our society, you dumbass.
That's what you think is the POINT of society? You have a twisted view of the world.
Nobody said she didn't have a right to do what she did. We just said it was wrong and without class.
There are a lot of rights that we don't necessarily need to invoke. Say, for example, I have a right to a seat on the bus since I'm first, but it would be proper for me to give it up to an old lady.
The Dixie Chicks took a political stand and spouted their opinion. We disagreed and decided not to give them any more money. Consequently, their tours, radio play and album sales dropped. You have a problem with that?
These actors/musicians are so full of themselves that they think their political opinions matter. This was a case where they were especially out of touch with their customers/fans.
Bullshit. The Dixie Chicks have their views and we have ours. BTW, Pelosi says it is un-American to enforce our immigration laws. How does that grab you?
The Dixie Chicks have every right to speak their mind. I have every right to disagree with them and not give them any more money.
I do take offense when Americans go off to France, for example, and criticize our President or our country. All they are doing is selfishly making themselves more important at the expense of the rest of us. Its a kick in the teeth to the brave soldiers risking their lives for our safety.
Next time Obama has a weekend dinner date in Chicago, or wants to slam Special Olympians in Burbank, think about the huge amount of CO2 that is being generated: 1) Air Force 1. A huge 747 airplane. Did you know there is also a backup 747 that follows AF1 around just in case? 2) Heavy lift airplanes (C-130s?) The president's limousines and helicopters have to be transported to the site. 3) Support staff/security. You can just imagine the huge effort required to keep the president safe and in contact with his advisors/speechwriters/teleprompter.
So, Mr. President, how about doing instead of just talking?
For months now I've been saying that Obama was Just Like Bush. But now the Salon article clearly shows that Obama is Worse Than Bush.
We haven't yet felt all of the effects of the disastrous spending bills that have just been passed. On top of this, the money supply has increased almost 300% in the past few months. This, along with all of the spending bills will mean double digit inflation on an economy where most people are not getting raises or bonuses.
Nobody imagined (except Republicans) that we would think of the Bush term as the Good Old Days.
And that's the problem with Democrats. Instead of privately funding their stem-cell research, they send men with guns to take my money for their research.
The Boeing President was so mad at Tex, that he didn't speak to him for years. This barrel roll was done in front of potential buyers, which did impress them.
Remember that a commercial airplane is not designed for aerobatic maneuvers. Which means Tex had to maintain a 1G downward force during the roll to ensure fuel stayed in the bottom of the tanks.
The President was mad because the Company bet the future on the 707. If it didn't sell (and/or if Tex crashed), then the Company would have folded.
The same thing was true with the 747, the Company bet the farm on this one too. It is such a big investment of capital, that there is no room for failure.
The economy tanked when the Democrats took control of Congress. While they are increasing the debt for our children to shoulder with their current Democrat Party Pork Stimulation bill, they waste time worrying about whether 5% of the people will be able to view their TV.
I love how liberals think. They are responsible enough to decide when to kill a baby, but aren't responsible enough to use a gun for protection.
It's amazing how they can decide that "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." does not mean what it says.
So, by collective right you are saying that our rights are not being infringed by denying a DC resident to have a gun because someone in Montana can have one? Or by saying the National Guard is allowed to have guns?
What do you think the point of the Second Amendment is?
How much did 9/11 cost this country? Hundreds of billions. Bush prevented another attack during his Administration against all odds. Biden predicted there will be another attack if Barry would get elected to President. How much do you think that will cost us?
War costs will continue since Barry will be moving troops from Iraq to Afghanistan/Pakistan.
Your Democratic Congress has approved bailouts since coming into power that have eclipsed the war costs.
So, how's that Democratic Congress for the last 2 years been working out for you?
And, maybe you can explain why the most liberal states (which have no war costs) are having the most trouble with their budgets?
Detroit and Michigan are perfect examples of what happens when Democrats run everything.
All those jobs that left the auto industry there? They didn't go outside the country. They went to other "Right-To_Work" states that then saw a tremendous increase in jobs.
Have you forgotten who runs Congress? The Democrats!!! They can pull out whenever they want to and they control the purse strings.
Is Diane Feinstein's husband a Republican? She had to resign from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee due to a conflict of interest with her husbands military contracts.
And your Democrat Congress very quickly eclipsed the Iraq War costs with their near-Trillion $$$ Bailouts. Congrats, you must be proud to be looking forward to more of this.
Yes, it is as bad. A fraudulent vote cancels out a valid vote, in effect taking a vote away from someone.
Also, consider that the Governor's race in Washington (where known ACORN abuses occurred), required an additional 2 recounts, where the Republican won the first two counts and the Democrat won the last and final count.
In this case, the Democrats kept recounting and "finding" votes until they were over the top. Less than two hundred fraudulent votes were enough to win the election. So, in this case over a *million* votes were disenfranchised when the election was stolen.
Funny you mentioned "a few of the workers" when the Wikipedia article mentions so many cases of voter fraud that it is obviously a standard practice in ACORN. They are against photo id, since that would impact their fraudulent voter drives.
The purpose of the EC is to prevent the tyranny of the majority.
Without the EC, the candidates would not even bother to campaign in flyover country, since their best return would be in the cities. Again, the Founding Fathers have shown great foresight.
The people in the cities should not solely decide the direction of this country.
Consider that the Democrats control Congress and have a major responsibility for the current economic crisis. This dwarfs any errors Bush has made.
And installing a president to rubber stamp this Democratic Congress that received a 9% approval rating is the wrong direction.
It was *not* banned. What was restricted was the federal funding for the research.
There was no restriction in private companies being able to do the research. What is truly shameful, is that the Liberals have used this issue for political gain, by obfuscating the issue as you have by implying that all research has been banned.

For shame, Liberals.
Look closer. Obama is popular, but his policies are not.
Most voters (58%) say the nation is heading down the wrong track:

Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on six out of 10 key issues, including the top issue of the economy.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/trust_on_issues/trust_on_issues
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 49% of voters see health care as a very important issue. That is down from 61% in early May and 62% in April. This is the first time since August 2007 that the majority of voters do not see the issue as very important.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/importance_of_issues2/importance_of_issues
Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans favor an across-the-board tax cut for all Americans to stimulate the U.S. economy, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/economic_stimulus_package/june_2009/51_say_cut_everybody_s_taxes_to_stimulate_the_economy
Most voters (53%) believe increases in government spending hurt the economy, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

And then there is the Generic Congressional Ballot which is an indication whether voters would vote for their district's candidate. It is tied right now and the Republicans actually took a two-point lead for a single week in the middle of March. Since mid-April, the parties have been roughly even.

The Obama Apologists should be concerned with the trends.

And the Democrats continue with their nanny-state mentality. We are too stupid to choose fuel efficient vehicles, so we must be forced to do so.
With Big Government, you get more laws and less freedom.
I choose to put 5k miles/year on my 15MPG SUV and 10k miles/year on my 45MPG Harley.
But the Democrats are working to eliminate that choice.
dammit, I accidentally pushed the submit button and meant to do more editing and correction ... oh well.

Vote for a 3rd party candidate, and you just might get someone like Al Franken elected.
Please learn from that experience.
Ron Paul was right. Instead of throwing your vote away with a 3rd party, work at getting your ideas accepted by one of the 2 existing parties.
For months now I've been saying that Obama was Just Like Bush. But now the Salon article clearly shows that Obama is Worse Than Bush.

Bah. Your numbers are wacked. Defense spending is 20% of the federal budget. Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security take up over 40% of the budget.

We won. The MSM is only interested in embarrassing Bush, so you probably won't hear about it.
And as Bush said many, many times before, we will draw down troops as soon as it is safe to do so.
http://www.strategypage.com/qnd/iraq/articles/20081027.aspx
However, Barry wants to put those troops in Afghanistan, so we won't be saving any money.
You guess wrong.
I have no problem with anybody voting, as long as they have the legal right.
If there is another way to prevent widespread voter fraud without requiring an ID, I'm fine with that.
Most states will let you get an ID without requiring a driver's license.
One vote per citizen, that's all I ask.
I see. So, by your reasoning, white people and Christians should have the majority of power and make all of the laws?
This is why we have a Republic. To prevent this sort of abuse.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy#Democracy_and_republic

Joe Biden will tell you so.
