  1. 2016 and later Chrysler products have a 3G cell phone receiver (2017 is now 4G). There is an app for both Android and iPhone called UConnect Access that installs free on the smartphone. To use it, I search Google Maps for a location or POI and then Share the location via UConnect Access on the smartphone to the car. A few seconds later it pops up on the screen in the car and with a single push, sets a new location. it beats the hell out of the on-screen interface where a search takes four steps: STATE | CITY | STREET| ADDRESS and it is impossible to search or 'POI near me' 2017 is also the first year that Android Auto and Apple Carplay are supposed to be available on Chrysler products.

I think it is highly likely that this blob is the proprietary Samsung Kies Air portal. Kies Air let's you connect your smartphone to your desk-top computer with a wireless connection for back-ups and installs. So, seems like a feature, not a bug. It might have some security holes but the intention seems legitimate

  4. Fly-by-wire throttle on Toyota's Killer Firmware · · Score: 1

Their are some advantages of having the ECU control the throttle in a modern car. Drive-ability is one of them. It allows the ECU to match engine torque and transmission shift points successfully. And this is a big contributor to fuel economy improvements on gas engine vehicles. It allows you to lug the engine at WOT in a much higher gear on small grades or flat roads and when you press the accelerator pedal further, it will force a down-shift. These are mapped into the ECU and adaptive coefficients are determined by the driver during the first few minutes of driving the car after a battery disconnect.

  7. It's not a completely new concept on Diesel-Like Engine Could Boost Fuel Economy By 50% · · Score: 1

GM has been working on this for years, with Delphi and others (Bosch comes to mind). It is a dual mode combustion system concept without a throttle plate on the intake side. At low loads, it runs a butt-load of cooled EGR as an inert gas in the cylinder fill and a small amount of combustion air and fuel. Because emission controls (cats) require stoichiometric fuel/air ratio, the use of EGR in the cylinder fill volume and a small amount of fresh air and fuel serves to keep compression pressures high enough for compression ignition but with a relatively low power output. At low loads, the small amount of fuel each cycle and the lack of pumping losses over a throttle plate are the main contributors to improved fuel consumption. At high power levels, it operates with much less EGR like a traditional GDI engine with typical power densities and emission levels. The trick has been to make smooth transitions from low to high power without stumbles.
