I imagine this would be just as immune to physical jarring as say blood cells in your blood vessels would be wouldn't it? Or as resiliant as the atomic bond in elements are.. At this scale the physical movements that we create as humans wouldn't be felt, similar as the molecules in your hand don't feel it when you wave at someone, but the hand as a whole feels it..
or at least that is what I would think
Sorry, got to disagree with you on this one.. I'd be very interested to know what your definition of 'popular' is. I am paying 55.00/Mbit for BGP4 Bandwidth, which I consider dirt cheap compared to the 400.00/Mbit I was paying back in 98. As far as traffic goes my servers serve about 9 million hits a day, and downtime means the loss of thousands of dollars an hour in revenue so you can understand how important it would be to me.
Hhehe, and of course If I would have read the other article would have seen it too was about hafnium and the new substrate as well.. So I retract my above statement, you're comment about this not being news is totally correct..
pretty sure this article was more about the switch to Hafnium as an insulator as apposed to the 45nm technology. Also the fact that they are using a new silicon substrate over the existing standard...
Busy day at the office or I'd be replying and reading through all the comments, but alas I shall just randomly post my thoughts.
#1 Games for enjoyment this year for me was FEAR I would say.. The sheer immersion factor of that game took the FPS genre to places I had only dreamt. The closest thing to playing a movie I have ever seen in a game
#1.5 - Wii Sports tops my list for pure fun.. I love people saying it's all about timing and bla bla bla. Very curious as to how this differs from any other game on the market at all:) I went out and bought 4 other games with my Wii(Rayman, Zelda, MonkeyBall and RedSteel) and I haven't even looked at the others more than a few times compared to the amount we all play Wii Sports in our house. This game almost gets the #1 spot for this next reason alone: ***PARENTAL ALERT*** Before we had to schedule babysitters weeks in advance, however ever since we've had the Wii in the house there is now, no word of a lie, a waiting list of babysitters at our beck and call, and the only thing they ever play is Wii Sports.
#2 Elder Scrolls IV: Ground Breaking RPG in every way shape and form. This game was probably the closest thing we'll see to a WoW killer in a while:)
As for 3 4 and 5 , wish I had time to think of em, but I just can't:)
Was it two teachers fighting, or the teacher yelling at the student? This is completely ridiculous that instead of maybe training teachers not to Yell at students they would ban any devices in order to make sure this inappropriate behaviour can carry on unchecked. Needless to say there are some kids that deserve to get yelled at, hell some kids deserve to get the shit beat out of them, but it is never the teachers place to do it which is unfortunate as most absentee parents are up for the challenge of actually raising their own children either.
while I agree that their guilt should be 100% proven, if they are phishing and found guilty then so be it. They are purposefully going after individual people and trying to defraud them of their hard earned money. Which, as silly as it sounds, I find different than someone innocently downloading music and defrauding massive studios of their not-so-hard-earned money.
Teens or no teens if you want to try to steal money from me, fucking rights I'm all over charging you with a crime. I did stupid things with computers when I was young sure, but I'd never do anything that would damage another person purposefully or defraud them of money. Probably because I actually had parents that gave a shit about me, what I was doing and spent actual real time iwth me on a daily basis as apposed to most of the punks that roam unchecked today.
I have to go along with this quote.. Fuck sleep, I don't solve any damn problems in my sleep.. Did you think that maybe if you sat down consciously and thought about the problem for 8 hours instead of sleeping you would have a solution in a lot shorter time.. Now I am not saying that sleep isn't needed for the physical recovery but as far as mental productivity goes and what I can have done then why the hell would I want to waste it in a bed for 8 hours no matter how good it might feel?
And lets be serious here, anyone who is self-employed which I am, works 14-18 hours a day anyways, you telling me that I can work my normal 16 hour day, have 4 hours of time off and wake up feeling like I slept for 8? Of course I could work less, but that just isn't going to happen so I'll paraphrase the end of that article:
For millions of people, good sleep and productive wakefulness are already elusive, night work or nightlife a reality, and the "stimulant-sedative" loop all too familiar. As Vaught puts it, "We're already there." So why not make it as clean and safe as possible?
Light of Other Days - By Arthur C Clarke and Stephen Baxter . Goes over the long term implications of instantaneous communications, or being able to receive information/peer back in time. Great fascinating read!
Intel 4004 - The World's First Single Chip Microprocessor . This technology is going to revolutionize the world!!! One day maybe 1 in 25 houses will have a 'computer'.. Most people predict this to be a fad and new greater emerging techologies such as the 8-track will make a much larger impact on our society!
Fuck Slashdot, get your ass together. I come here to feel special about my dorkdom and now I don't even have that!
http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/juan_enriquez_shares_mindboggling_new_science.html Enjoy.. It is shown that the rate of development AND adoption of technology(be it biological or technological) follows something similar to Moore's law, not a linear curve
By Startrek I was referring to the JJ Abrahms star trek, not the traditional Star Trek, or even TNG, Voyager and DS9 in some poignant episodes
