Isn't the problem with a web-based OS (or, more properly, desktop shell) the ping time of the connection, not the bandwidth? As much as I like a solid AJAX web application, there is an unavoidable annoyance of waiting 1/2 a second everytime you click on something. That would be untolerable for everyday uses like word processing. Has anyone here ever used the Google spreadsheet? It's ungodly frustrating because every time you want to do _anything_, even adjust the width of a box, you have to wait that 1/2 second. Not to mention all the privacy and dependability issues.

Opening the doors for the ISP to collect money per-email is lunacy. It is all to easy for them to simply add a another cent, here and there, as some sort of a "service charge". Remember that the original income tax in the US started by only taxing 1% of the highest income bracket.

It wouldn't be as crazy as it sounds. More than half of the XBox owners I know bought it almost exclusively to play Halo. The statitiscal insignificance and bias of this sample notwithstanding, I could definitely believe that this would push a few people over the edge who were waffling between getting Vista and sticking with XP. Enough, at least, to make up for lost Halo PC sales. After all, the marketing guys at redmond are no dummies.

The real name of the subject of an article is relevant almost by definition. The encyclopedia should be able to function as a launching point for further investigation by the reader. The dual purposes of the reference section are (1) to allow verification of the accuracy of information and (2) to enable further research. The article should not merely say "A man existed, who went my such-and-such aliases, and did X, Y, and Z". It should identify the man. It should state that "Bill Johnson did X,Y, and Z". The name of the subject is highly relevent. The harrassment of people (or the relatives/friends/aquaintinces) who hold important places in history or current events is an unfortunate repercussion of encyclopedias, newspapers, and many other sources of information.
