Pre-installed apps can not be removed. At best you can deactivate, but with every update, they come back. I've got at least 5 phone books created by these apps, and can't get to a single phone book and calendar.

  2. Browser Wars on Microsoft Browser Usage Drops 50% As Chrome Soars (networkworld.com) · · Score: 1

I use Firefox because it does not try to take over my computer and direct me to stuff I never use. Hate the new MS Edge. Every time I get a Win10 update, I need to re-do my program settings. If I really wanted Edge to open my PDF files, I would not pay for Adobe.

  3. The Electoral College is working in the exact manner for which it was created. The reason it was created was to provide a balance between groups with differing philosophies.

Big deal. He's not the Secretary of State. He's a private citizen. He's not charged with the responsibility of protecting classified information.

This is a rare occasion for me... I actually agree with the President on this. This will force US corporations to re-invest in jobs and infrastructure.

  7. Non-Disparagement Clause on Displaced IT Workers Being Silenced · · Score: 1

Most severance agreements are signed under duress. Being terminated can be very stressful, and the future looks bleak. You don't know when you will receive your next paycheck, and must start a job search. Most states have laws which prevent signing contracts under duress. And accepting a termination (severance) package may meet those standards. One should not be afraid to tell the truth. Just be careful not to say anything "nasty" about the company or its executives. Simply state that you were replaced by a low salaried individual with an H1B visa - if you know that this is true.

  8. John Oliver - FCC on FCC Website Hobbled By Comment Trolls Incited By Comedian John Oliver · · Score: 1

There's one problem with posting comments on the FCC web site. You must provide name and address and other personal information. The site does post a statement, that all information related to the comment becomes part of the public domain. What a great way to collect information about individuals.

  9. How to overcome technology compatibility on Digital Storage To Survive a 25-Year Dirt Nap? · · Score: 1

Drawings on cave walls have survived for more than 10,000 years. Learn from that lesson. Print the data and store in an air-tight box. Then you won't have to worry about technology compatibility.

  10. Vista upgrade to SP1 on University of Penn. Recommends Against Vista SP1 · · Score: 1

Try turining off the automatic update feature, or efusing to install the automatically downloaded update file. Vista will bug you, and it won't stop. U of P should never have allowed VIsta into any of its computers, and should have provided students with an "upgrade" to XP Pro. They should be telling Microsoft to keep Win XP alive until a better alternative to Vista is available. One of Microsoft's biggest mistakes was to create an OS that treats all users as unknowing computer novices.

  11. Re:this does NOT suck on Two US States Restrict Used CD Sales · · Score: 1

Actually... it's very pro business. There are more stores selling new CDs than used. Used CDs cut into the profits of the music business because they only get royalties on the original sale and all the big retail stores make money on the original sale. Let's not forget about the software business. They sell their programs on new CDs. Look at all the consumers who switched to MS Vista. Their old WinXP OS discs are still good, and there is a big market for the older program versions.
