I agree. A skilled, successful web developer can work in different development environment. Neil McAllister does not really understand what he is talking about here. For instance, he compares Flash to AJAX, which makes little sense. AJAX is more of a tool then a profession.
"If you're in charge of a Web-based software project, how do you go about recruiting development talent?"
He believes the main problem is the fragmentation of philosophies and environments used. I agree with you that the main problem is finding good developers PERIOD.
"Peripherals and Computer Software, Microsoft is second to IBM in brand power, with Toshiba a close third, Gregory said. If Microsoft's downward trend continues, Toshiba could pass it in brand power next year, he said."
I somehow doubt that Toshiba's brand will be worth more then MS's.
The point is that Google set a lofty standard for themselves. "Do no Evil" doesn't allow excuses. Maybe they should change their motto if they want to be the "same as any other company"
That Microsoft is a company that is more sensitive to itself then those it serves, IE customers?
OMG OMG OMG OMG.
Yes, I can understand most of the reason why/.'s villainize Microsoft, but come on, what do you expect?

When then Google should drop the "Don't be Evil" motto if they are not in the position to do so.

Did you know that China also requires the kicking of babies to do business in China? Guess Google is gonna have to do that too
