  1. Re:Here's the scoop from a psychologist. on Will Caffeine Cause Health Problems? · · Score: 1

"I once heard a rule of thumb that you shouldn't be drinking caffeinated beverages after 8:00"

I read it was 11:00 AM that you shouldn't drink after. If you do, you'll feel "work related stress" all the way into the evening. I'm not sure when the "good sleep" cutoff is...

Caffeine in the morning, like 1 or 2 cups per day, is supposed to help long term memory.

Caffeine also will dry you out. If you drink enough, and not enough non-caffeinated beverages, like water, you will get dehydrated. Ever get that dull headache that starts at the back of your neck?

That's exactly what I was going to say.
We have so many rocks on earth that originated on Mars, why not the other way around?
Inner/outer orbits certainly make it less likely, but even with a slim possibility and millions of years, there's a realistic possibility.

BUT! there is only one morality in The Matrix: Might makes right. Even in a complex world where they are supposed to be just thought, the question of who determines the future of the universe is still only who can kick the most ass.

/. was one of the original weblogs. I don't recall seeing anything even close to this type of format before slashcode was released, and then the idea was copied widely.

It *does* turn your wrist, but less so than this one. They have multiple sizes of mice for both left and right hands. They *don't* have a mouse wheel, but the action of using a mouse wheel, that scruntch of your hand, is exactly the problem of ergonomics you should be fixing.

  7. Custom CDs of music or Free Software on Favor Ideas for a Geeky Wedding? · · Score: 1

Make a CD of the wedding music, or your favorite songs, or make a theme. If you have a decent color ink-jet printer you can print cd labels and case inserts pretty cheap. Total per cd will be about $2.

Or if you want to be legal, you could burn and give out your favorite Linux distribution, or that GNUWin2 cd.

  8. Aiwa CDC-MP3 on Head Units for Car MP3 Players? · · Score: 1

I bought this head unit a couple of *years* ago, and it's wonderful.
    Features:
    - Plays MP3s off cdrs, about 10 albums per cdr at 192k. 10 albums / $.50 per cd = $.05 per album.
    - organized by directory
    - reads id3 tags
    - interface treats each directory like a cd in a cd changer, so interface is dead simple
    - regular cd player means you don't lose backwards compatibility with 'older' formats, like cds
    - cd changer control (no, there are no mp3 cd changers, yet)
    - killer for you iPod people: has a aux line in jack on the front, so you can plug in if you want with just a $5 cable (headphone male to headphone male)
    - carry your *entire* music collection in a cd wallet type case, and be able to use it at home, in the car, at work, or from any laptop.

    minuses:
    - random play is only per directory, so for real mixes, just reburn w/out directories, or organize by just file instead of folder + file

This is several years old, so there *should* be lots of similar models out there... I know Aiwa has a newer model, too. Was $300 then, probably $200-$250 now.

I've found that simply ignoring mail that doesn't have my address in To: or CC: effectively eliminates almost all spam. (i.e. ignore Bcc: mail) I explicitly allow mailing lists that I'm on. I do this in pine. If I have friends that mail me forwards and bcc me, I'll add their address to the whitelist.

Spammers hate to give up their address lists, so they tend to use BCC:
