"Who the hell cares?" How about people that like to read news for nerds?

    Just a thought.

There is one way DRM can work. Force all customers to have decoders implanted into their brains. Then when that customer plays iPod it will play an encoded version of the song that only the customer can decoded.
Of course the music industry hasn't put out any music worth the trouble

I imagine that the early adopters of this approach would be the same people who put RFID's into their bodies/hands.

Nice! I like how you made up a quotation, passed it for the real deal, then get +5 informative!
Anyhow, here is the real quote in context.

"I do not think that just being arrested will affect anything so long as Hans is not actually convicted," says Oleg Drokin, the former release manager at Namesys. "If he is convicted, that might cause problems for Namesys [because] it is operated solely by Hans."

The main concern, according to Drokin, is whether Namesys employees, many of whom live in Russia, will continue to receive their salaries. If the money stops flowing, "some people will stop working, of course."

However, Drokin thinks that situation is unlikely. "Hans suspected that he would be suspected from the very beginning," he adds. "I would think he took necessary steps for Namesys employees to continue to work even in his absence and even Namesys itself is safe for at least some time."

    ...

Lyamin agrees that Reiser4 should be unaffected for now. "Yes, we are rather shaken and stressed at the moment, although I cannot say we didn't see it coming." In the short term, Lyamin says, meaning the next six months, "We will just buzz along as usual, chunking out patches and going through reviews."

  16. Re:That really sucks on Hans Reiser Arrested On Suspicion of Murder · · Score: 1

Yes, but for a population of murderers to be 'rehabilitated' the re-murder rate should match that of the society they are moving back into. If it is higher than that then it's too high.

  18. Please memorize this equation on How Much Virtual Memory is Enough? · · Score: 3, Funny

Before talking about swapping, pagging, and virtual memory please learn and understand this equation: Virtual Memory = Physical Memory + Swap(or Page) file. I let the OS (windows) manage my page file. The current generation of windows OS's (2k, xp, & 03) mange the swap file much more efficently than windows 9x did. All this mumbo-jumbo about tweaking the swapfile came about because these old versions of windows needed to be tweaked, they had memory problems and tweaking the swapfile would improve performance and stability. But the current generation of windows has no need for tweaking the swapfile, save for some special server situations. Its a waste of time to personally manage the swapfile for a desktop/development computer.
